We just got back from the White Mountains camping and hiking for 5 weeks. We always carry bear spray and I carry a 686+ with Buffalo Bore bullets. I'll practice for a month or so before we go. We've come upon females with cubs several times and they run away.

After more than 40 years handloading, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX Bluetooth Chronograph. I can't wait to see what velocity my loads really are at and how much deviation there is between shots.

I also vote for the expander going through the case. I use a case neck brush with a little case lube on it before sizing the cases (243 and 7mm mag).

With my Remington 700 in 7 mag I found CCI 250 primers with IMR 4831 and 140ish gr BT gives me 3 shot groups under an inch at 100 yards. I just bought a chronograph so I can check the speed of the bullets.

My most accurate loads are IMR 4831 for the 7mm Rem mag with a 145 gr SPT (Rem 700 rifle) and IMR 4064 for the .243 win with an 85 gr BT (Sako Finwolf rifle).

My wife and i are camping and hiking in bear country right now in the White Mountains. We carry bear spray and if for some reason that doesn't work then my 686+ should help some. I use Buffalo Bore loads. As far as practicing, I've been reloading and shooting the 357 for 45 years. Many years ago...
