Tell me about the Remingtion model 31

The Remington 31 is a modified John Browning model 17 (the parent of the Ithaca 37), upsized to 12 ga and made into a side-ejector. Comparing a 37 and 31 side by side will reveal many strong similarities in the parts (which is not to say they interchange). Further, it is an ancestor of the...

.45 Colt revolver recommendations ... (maybe even a classic)?

Stainz, this is no longer true; the new 4" .45 LC Redhawk uses the much larger extractor star from the Super RH. The star encompasses the rim from about 2:00 to 10:00. There's also a machined undercut in the cylinder below the star, probably to prevent powder grain jams. Had an '88 S&W 25-5...

Are Rugers REALLY stronger than S&W's?

The basic design of S&W revolvers dates from pre-1900, way prior to magnum cartridges. The Redhawk, for one ex., was designed in the 1970s, specifically AROUND the .44 Mag cartridge. Blued Ruger revolvers are almost entirely 4140 chrome-moly (excepting stainless steel lockwork parts). S&W...

Learn from my mistake! Damaged SP101

I think it's a common confusion that Ruger casts their revolver cylinders...as far as I know, they've always been machined from bar stock.

Ready to load 9mm, been loading ACP. Anything to look out for?

Isn't that for bullets only? Corbin makes a case/bullet cannelure tool for around $130.

    Browning BPS

Make sure you have a long left arm. (The forearm has a slot cut to make way for ejected shells; if your arms are short your left hand can actually block the ejection port.) Very well made; probably the smoothest pump out of the box.

impulse buy : remington 870 police magnum

The blued models are back in the 2008 Remington LE catalog, though not in their website chart. Don't know if that's a matte or polished blue. The catalog also shows blued 2 and 3 shot extensions, in addition to the parkerized. ...you'll want the 2-shot for your 18" barrel.

    Winchester 1894 vs Marlin 336

The Win 94 is a superior design. The Marlin is neither stronger nor simpler. The 94, like the Win 92, uses compound leverage, where the Marlin uses a fixed fulcrum. Superior bolting. The locking block has more surface area where it contacts the bolt than the Marlin does. It also completely...

Why are non-citizen's allowed to own a gun?

"Allowed" or "...should be allowed to..." This, or similar wording, seems to be spreading all over the culture where it comes to discussions involving ALL of our rights. One implication is that some higher authority decides what we may do or not do....this is a feeble attitude befitting school...

factory Browning BPS Invector Plus barrel...slugging OK?

From the owner's manual: "All current 12 and 20 gauge and .410 bore BPS models have a 3" chamber (except the 3 1⁄2" 12-gauge model) and are designed to shoot and function with all factory loads: 3" Magnum, 2 3⁄4" Magnum, 2 3⁄4" High Velocity loads, 2 3⁄4" Field and 2 3⁄4" Target loads." Also...

    Steel receivers vs aluminum

Carl, bolt lockup is not the relevant issue. The Remington's shell latches are STAKED into the receiver...can't do that with aluminum. If Remington redesigned how the shell latches were retained in the receiver, they could go with aluminum as well...but you can't simply replace...

    Scandium revolvers

I've found the recoil on my 325PD to be...faster...than my 625. Not painful at all, just quick. The downside is that I had a bullet pull from the case at the range (or more accurately, the case pull off the bullet), tying up the cylinder and thereby the gun. The bullet was easily removed by...

    I think I found my shotgun:D

FN had a previous relationship with JMB, making his pistols, which had turned their company around. They were only too happy to make his shotgun. The FN shotgun is a modified Winchester Super-X2...which is a slightly modified Browning Gold.
