I always mail order my black powder, buy it in bulk so the hazmat charge isn't so bad. I prefer the house brand 3F from Graf&Sons (Link Here)... besides being generally cheaper than the subs, it definitely shoots more consistant giving me better accuracy.
Been a while since I posted, figured I'd throw up a semi-recent pic...
Only 25 yards this time, still seem to get two flyers out of six shots... gonna have to mic my chambers one of these days.
That's pretty much the state of things. Unless you luck into some good South African or Greek HXP you're pretty much stuck with POF and WW2/Korean era surplus.
If you plan on shooting .303 Brit with any regularity and don't want to fork out $1+ per round then I highly encourage you to reload...
Ahah! Sounds like a perfect opportunity for handloading... could try some heavier slugs to bring the impact up or tweak the powder load to get it dead on with your current bullet selection...
or you can take the easy way out and file the front sight a smidge :neener:
BTW, nice lookin...
My take on a WWII major combatant bolt action rifle collection without going nuts/broke:
Russia - Mosin Nagant 91/30 ~$100
Germany - K98 Mauser ~$200-300
Great Britain - Lee Enfield No4 Mk1 ~$150-250
United States - Model 1903 ~$450-800
Italy - M38 Carcano ~$100-200
Japan - Type 99...
Lee Enfields, Model 1917s and M1 Garands are the best for me. The most common problem I run into with other rifles is they have insufficient drop so I either end up looking at the sights through the top of my glasses or the stock beats the hell out of my cheek bone.
.54cal Lyman GPR kit; six coats of BLO on whatever type walnut it is; barrel & funiture rusted with a combo of bleach, water and cold blue followed by more bleach... still a work in progress.
