    M1 empty clip doesn't eject

Hey all, I just got my CMP Garand; overall it's quite nice looking, with a beautiful stock. Shoots great. The only problem is that the empty clip hasn't been ejecting -- no characteristic M1 "ping"! After the 8th round is fired, the bolt locks back and the clip just sits there. I have to...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Well, I've got things pretty much resolved. There were two problems — one unreliable magazine, and bad ammo. When I switched to Remington .22 Thunderbolts, the weak shots and failures to extract stopped instantly — and returned instantly when I switched back to the Federal value box stuff...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Update. Re: Funderb and koginam -- Checked out the scope mount screws. They are definitely not protruding through the top of the receiver. There is a noticeable recess between the tips of all the screws and the top inside of the receiver. So I believe that one can now be ruled out. Re...

Mandate Insurance To Reduce Gun Violence - It’s A Compelling Argument

When a crime involving a gun occurs, the firm who insured it pays the claim. If the gun is not found or is uninsured (and there will still be many of these at first) then every fund will pay a pro-rated share of the damages, based on the number of guns they insure. Haha, wait a minute. So, the...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Encoreman -- what is the advantage of dry lube over regular oil? (That is, assuming the gun is cleaned after every range trip, which this rifle is.) The main advantage that seems to be advertised is cold weather performance, which is not a concern. I'm curious as to what the benefit is for...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Koginam -- Thanks for the suggestion. If it doesn't work okay with the magazine next time I fire it, I will try it without the mag. However, this problem seems to persist with two separate mags, both of them Ruger rotary mags (not iffy aftermarket ones), and cleaning them didn't seem to help...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Well, I've taken out the bolt handle for cleaning, but it's the original part, if that's what you mean.

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Update: I swapped out the extractor spring for a Volquartsen Custom replacement. Upon inspection, the Volquartsen one appeared to be shorter but stiffer. No idea if it'll make a practical difference. It extracts fine when I operate it manually, but then again, so did the old one. (Can't live...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

Re: Chewbaccer — that's what I would have expected, too, but I have tried different brands and batches, and it doesn't seem to help. Re: Scott22 — The extractor actually had been disassembled and cleaned right before this session, precisely because I was trying to test this problem. I bought...

Ruger 10/22 in bad shape (reliability)

About a year and a half ago I bought a plain jane Ruger 10/22. I had the occasional fail to fire, but basically it was rock solid as far as reliability goes. In the meantime I installed a scope and a few custom parts like an extended mag release, and everything still seemed basically fine...
