I noticed you mentioned Roger Phillips and while I haven't taken a class from him yet, I intend to. If you want to hear some of his philosophy, he'd been a guest on Bob Mayne's Handgun World Podcast. That was a time when Mr. Phillips was still teaching under the Suarez International banner.
I...
other than a weekend long basic handgun defense course, I haven't taken additional courses yet but I have done some shopping since I'm definitely planning to take a similar style class. I can post what I've researched if the OP is interested.
This thread has been linked to a 2014 thread about robberies near shooting ranges. To follow through, yes, the penalty was stiffer:

RIP, Reverend.
David58-- if you are familiar with a Seattle Pacific U, can you clarify:
I read one news post (can't remember where now) that the person who pepper sprayed the gunman was reportedly trained to respond to threats and that SPU had offered such training. Does this news seem accurate?
Thanks 9mm. I'll have to clarify that my comments were pure speculation based on what I've seen in the FS promo vids, the content of their web site and various forum posts. Again, haven't been there yet but absolutely plan to take advantage of what's offered.
On a different note, can someone...
I hope this is OK to post:
Instructor Claude Werner is someone I'd been following on Facebook for some time. His writings are constantly informative and helpful, and something I think would appeal to STT forum readers (for those who don't know him already). He just moved over to blogging, and...
I'm in Schwing's camp except the hotel deal; ended up buying it after listening to a Gun Dudes podcast where someone went to the same shotgun class. seems like the courses are good for novice shooters (which would be long guns for me). hoping to take advantage of my membership soon.
Shorter answer-- for me it's not about anxiety or ego, it's really about all the other things in day-to-day life that clash with current training class schedules. I just can't create that much uninterrupted time. Multi-day courses, 8-10 hours each day, just don't work for my own schedule.
It's...
Thanks for the post. I was looking at that patch of grip tape on your slide. Is that just for racking or meant to be a "non-index"-- if you feel your thumb there then you're up against the slide?
Echoing what others have said: Whatever steps one may take to clear the weapon and render it safe, I've included the habit of using a finger to check the chamber-- pinkie or index finger, doesn't matter. It serves 2 purposes-- tactile verification that the chamber is empty. More importantly...
Wow. A lot of things to think over. I'll have to see what works for a middle-age person who's in good cardio shape, but not too flexible, and needs to lose about 10 pounds to hit ideal weight. Power-driven techniques might not work for me since I don't have much upper body strength. Should have...
Thanks for the replies so far. Choosing which direction to go has been even more challenging than choosing a firearm. Insurance, eating/staying healthy, fire and disaster planning-- all that're in the books.
It's this thread where I want to admit I'm pretty deficient. I took a simunitions...
