Barrel erosion
I've always been told that it is the gas from the burning powder that "burns" out a barrel, not the actual bullet.
Not quite true.
Pressure in the barrel causes expansion and contraction of the steel as the pressure wave goes down the barrel causes barrel "burn out".

I'm onto my third barrel on a Sako 22-250. This third barrel has about had it as well.
Total rounds through this particular rifle is close to 18,000 in the 3 barrels.

Had a Husqvarna .22lr.
It began to shoot erratically and the odd case would rupture. Took it to a smith and he said the barrel was eroded at the throat. He cut it back 1 1/2inches and rechambered. After that it shot as well as ever.
