Most public ranges in the DFW area require you to shoot benched. I know one indoor range that will let you shoot standing on their rifle range, but it's only 50 yards.
While I do prefer shooting offhand, I like to bench shoot as well. It's relaxing. :)
If what you're working on is small enough, try working on it inside a ziploc freezer bag (or a garbage bag if larger) when messing with springs. If your part launches hopefully it'll have less places to go.
Are you certain? Not entirely the same, but switching an AR to .300 Blackout only needs a barrel swap, but for a SCAR 16S the bolt carrier weight has to be tuned in order to get it to cycle reliably. I wonder if you'd run into similar problems switching calibers with a 17S.
I read at one point they said they weren't planning on it, because the mag well doesn't have enough space for the thicker material a poly mag would require.
A Hammers Slammers 2cm powergun, along with some good sunglasses so I don't trash my retinas firing it.
In the really real world, probably a SCAR-H PR. Though I guess that's still fiction at this point. :)
Steyrs can be kind of picky when it comes to ammo, and the extractors are quirky (mine throws shells straight up half the time). It does have a really low bore axis, though. My M40-A1 has negligible muzzle flip. It shoots like a 9mm.
I've found the AFG2 works really nicely if you position it forward off the bottom rail, so that it comes even with the end of the gas block. Gives you a little more room to extend your arm out. Just need to be careful not to touch the gas block with your thumb, but that hasn't been a problem for me.
