The .243 is only marginally better than a .22 cal centerfire IMO. They are a big varmint caliber, make good coyote guns. Carry it if you want.... I'll carry my deer calibers.

I trailed most of those deer myself, most were good shots. Through the lungs, maybe liver and 1 lung on a quartering deer. Most of them were shot with 65 gr Sierra GameKings. I don't like little bitty piss ant bullets for deer. YMMV

This isn't always true... Not true either... I've killed close to 200 deer, and I'd say at least 50 of those died with their eyes closed.

All around? My .300 Ashehurst.... It's been to 6 continents , killed critters the size of a squirrel up to a ton and a half water buffalo in Australia.

My favorite caliber is the .300 Win Mag I suppose, based strictly on number of kills.

I have and use lots of different configurations. Blued/Wood Stainless/Wood Blued/ Synthetic Stainless/Synthetic Carbon Fiber/Synthetic Black Matte/ Synthetic I have no real preference, when I'm buying a new gun, or a used one, it's whatever tickles my fancy at the moment.
