Switched to a revolver for ccw...

I daily carry a S&W 386. 7 round alloy pistol in 357. It is the same as the snub 686 only 10 oz lighter. For range use I shoot regular 38's and for carry I use the Federal Hydra-Shock +P+. I've carried and owned the S&W model 36 for almost 50 years. There is a comfort factor knowing the pistol...

Printing with a 6 shot vs 5 shot.

I've found that if you wear a print overshirt it breaks up the contour and you can carry any width on your hip.

    Thinking about my next purchase

Sig 229 is a 15+1 magazine, a wee bit shorter than the 226 and hammer fired. I have no CZ experience so I can't compare. Police trade ins will keep you within budget. A used Browning Hi power would fit your requirements too. Good luck.

    ccw pistol for big guy

If you like the XDs you might think about the XDe it is a bit taller and has a hammer instead of being a striker fired. With the hammed you get a decocker. Currently Springfield has a rebate where you can send away for extra magaxines. The magazine limit in NYS of ten or less fits the XDe 8 and...

What distance do you prefer handguns to be tested for accuracy at?

Most of my guns are for concealed carry and are mostly short barrels. I know most guns, out of the box, are sighted for 25 yds. With fixed sights I want to know where to aim when shooting at 7 and 15 yards. My usual distance is 15 yds. but reading some of the responses I have begun to think...

Ever come full circle with your CCW?

I began my CCW with a J frame mod 36, 50 yrs later I still own it. I've gone thru Browning Hi powers as a CCW and a host of other revolver and pistols. I carried a S&W 637 for the light weight, the 686 for a while. now I carry the S&W 386 N/G. It is a larger frame than the original Mod 36...

What is the caliber of your Every Day Carry pistol?

I've been carrying a North American arms .22 short in my pocket for over 45 years. My EDC now is a S&W 386 night guard in 357 but loaded with .38 +P+ instead of the full power rounds. 10 oz. lighter to carry but same size as my S&W 686 plus.

    Concealed Carry Snubbie?

Go to a range that rents guns and find out if a light weight or full steel pistol is more to your liking. Once you've tested and figured what suits your needs best get a good holster. There are many choices and styles from shoulder to ankle and every pocket, and cavity on your body. Don't buy...

    Recommendations for a 3" S&W 686 OWB Leather holster?

I went with the Falco model 92 IWB open muzzle for my 386 and 686 2 1/2" barrel. Very comfortable, I've been c/c for over 40 years and this fits my 'older shape' love handles body. It took 4 weeks for them to create mind. well worth the wait. Hope this helps.

What's your idea of the ultimate .357?

I've just been introduced to the S&W 386 and to me, for now, it has become my favorite .357. I've owned numerous S&W .357's over the years, from 6inch down to 2inch barrels and all have, at the time been my favorite. This 386 was obtained by trading off my 3" 686 and the weight difference (10...

What do you do with your stickers?

I keep a batch in my car and when I see a Hillary bumper sticker or Peace symbols sticker on vehicles in malls or shopping centers I slip one of the gun stickers on the bumper too. You'd be surprised how long people will drive around with the stickers before some one either likes it and asks...

I came too late to the party, The Sig P250.

I had a 250 at the same time my son bought one. We took them to the range and practiced on opposite ends of the range so as not to distract each other. After the session we swapped our pistols, both .40 cal. At the end of the second session we sold the 250's ASAP. I also own a 238, a 320 and Two...
