    Gun lingo I don't understand

Ha, I love mall ninja threads! I've always had a thing against the "tacti-cool" folks so this just makes me giggle even more. As for the term itself, it's been around for decades. I don't know it's true origin, but it looks like it was resurrected for gecko45 and fits him well. I agree with...

How much ammo do you stock?

I reload most of my own, so it makes sense to load in bulk rather than to change setup for a dozen different calibers and only load a few boxes each. For cartridges like 7.62x39 that I don't normally reload for, I tend to buy in volume. Several cases at a time and order more ahead of time...

    9mm DRT Ammunition

I don't trust any of that prefragmented stuff. If you take a look at every "failure to stop" out there, you'll see that they all have one thing in common. No matter how much "energy" the perp absorbed, the bullet didn't make it to the vitals, whether through poor shot placement or inadequate...

    Stopping Power

Kinetic energy doesn't mean a lot when you think about it. Perhaps they should have used momentum. It makes more sense when applied to projectiles. Anyway, what's the one thing that all "failures to stop" have in common? No matter how much "energy" the target absorbed, nothing immediately...

Those of you who've hunted with a handgun. Do you still believe in stopping power?

I haven't shot all that many deer with a handgun and it was always with a .44 mag when I did. However, I have spent the better part of 15 years using hundreds of hogs in East Texas as living ballistic testing medium for defense caliber handguns ranging from the .380 to .45 ACP. The one thing...

Does the .40 S&W Just Need More Time?

I don't dislike the .40. I just don't own one because I don't see a need, for many of the reasons already mentioned. It's a "tweener". I already own 9mms and .45s. I don't need something in between. The 9mm with smart ammo choices (unlike the Miami FBI folks made) is plenty effective enough, and...

My "Be Prepared" Pack (links included)

Good advice about the DEET. I overlooked it in my own bag. An omission I came to deeply regret last time I did a 3 day trial run using the bag. Biting insects can make you seriously miserable in a survival situation, so please bring the DEET!

Carry at home, Married or Single?

I carried at home when I was married. I carry at home now that I'm single, and I'll carry at home if I marry my sweetheart. I carry at home, period.

    Who actually owns one?

I have never owned one, but I have two friends who at one time or another both owned one. I've shot them a number of times. I don't care for the gun, personally. Unless it's kept spotlessly clean, it turns unreliable after a few rounds. I didn't like the fit, and thought the recoil was excessive...

How many buy ammo for guns you don't own yet?

I only buy ammo I don't own a gun for if it's of interest to me and I want to buy a gun that uses that cartridge anyway. That's how I got into 9mm Flobert rimfire. Found a bunch of ammo cheap then started looking for the gun to fit it. I will buy common ammo if the price is right. It makes...

    Aftermarket stock for Savage MKII

Plinky (any relation? haha), Richards is known for being slow at times. He gets swamped with work and runs stocks in batches based on popular action inlets at the time. I've also heard that he "forgets" sometimes. I had to nag him a bit to get my stock at all, and it was about 5 months after...

    New Ugly Black Rifle

Haha, don't forget the IR laser in case ya gotta light 'em up at night. The drink cozy is a new one on me. I'm still giggling about that one. Seriously though, you have a gorgeous stack of guns there. I drooled my way from the top of the pic to the bottom.

The new kel tec's are here...

Me too. I've been eagerly awaiting it since I got to handle it at the Shot Show. I've always liked the balance of a bullpup but until the RFB, they've either been too cheesy (Muzzelite kit, AKU kit, etc) or too pricey like the AUG.

    Why do you Limit Yourself?

Part of the reason I prefer a .45. It's effective while still being a low pressure round. Anyone who has ever had to touch off a round in an enclosed area knows why I prefer a low pressure round.
