    Refinishing a stock

If anyone recalls the old "FOXFIRE" books...they mention using shoe polish..Yep .. KIWI... I have used it on several stocks, and other wood projects... For real light wood, (pine) I often darken with a propane torch first. Works great, cheap, easy to touch up, fills all the little wood pores...

BP bullets out of wheel weights

Fluxing keeps the different materials alloyed..it Keeps them mixed. Without fluxing, the ingredients will separate... most common materials, being lighter than lead, will float to the top...

BP bullets out of wheel weights

You ain't sounding dumb... A ladle will work, or an old spoon etc.. As you stir the molten lead, any alloy materials will come to the top.. IE zinc, copper, antimony, tin are some. stir and skim, stir and skim. Just that simple.

    Problem making nitrate soaked papers

I second the " KISS" theory..... ZIG- ZAG papers... The burn rate on different papers should be a moot point.. 4 seconds or 389 nanoseconds...immaterial... Bottom line, When I open the chamber after a shot.. no paper residue !!

Convert a cap and ball revolver to shotgun??

I've loaded my '51 for shooting yellowjackets. 10g GOEX 3f, full cylinder of Grape Nuts cereal, and a beeswax plug Works great out to 'bout 8 ft. With the 10 gr load, absolutely no recoil, no problem with the wax plug. Beautifully clean bore ofter a 'hunting' expedition.

    Totally New to BP

P.S. There should be a drum clean-out screw on the right side...under the nipple.. Hopefully that is not frozen or rusted.. I use anti-seize on nipples and drum clean-outs... I don't mean to sound condescending... I don't know how familiar you are with muzzle loader terminology.

never knew 1861 Navy was such a pain!

Are all your nipples the same length ??? I have a Rogers & Spencer that came with 2 chambers/nipples that wouldn't fire . Long story short; them 2 nipples were a micro-tad shorter than the others.. Measure from the seating surface to the top of the nipple.
