Still being used every year. I own 3 of them (keeping some extras on hand for the grandkids) and I wouldn't want to be without one.
First deer I ever got was with my Winchester 30-30 and iron sights. I'd be more than confident to walk in looking for pigs with it in my hands.
A classic that keeps...
My wife and I went on Sunday. I, too, had never been to one and was surprised at the size. We enjoyed walking around and trying various optics and guns. We bought some t-shirts and holsters and had a chance to talk live with a vendor that I needed that I may never see again.
A lot of walking...
I hunt public land in GA every year and my "spot" varies between 3/8 to 9/10 of a mile in. Although I walk much further in, someone I hunt with only walks in about 250 yards from the parking/camping area and sees deer every year. Go figure.
Just switched this year from Winchester model 94 30-30 to a Marlin 336 in 30-30. It's my new go to rifle although I've taken more deer with my black powder rifle than anything else.

Always makes a nice Christmas gift...
I've taken 4 deer with a CVA Optima using 245 grain HP Powerbelt bullets and 100 grains of 777 (2 fifty grain pellets) and 209 primers. All 4 were shot in the neck, none of them had exit wounds and none of them ever took another step.
I think the 295 grain is the better choice for the load I...
Other than black powder, it's the only rifle I use for deer. I've been using a Winchester 94 top eject for the last 30 years but this year I went in with a 1974 Marlin 336 with a DNZ one piece scope mount and Leupold 1.5-5 x 20 scope on it. Eyes finally got too bad for the iron sights on my '94...
If I get a chance to get in the woods, I will in fact shoot it just to let everyone know how it actually did.
In the meantime, I'm making arrangements to have David Clements re-barrel it for me.
Here's a couple pictures of the barrel end as well as the forcing cone. The sunlight I used to try and show it is kind of harsh but it shows nonetheless. both ends have been scrubbed extensively and went from starting as a dark color and ending as a very bright pitted metal with lots of metal...
Great replies everyone. I'll try to answer some of the questions in no particular order. Having several of these guns, this was purchased as part of a collection kick I was on at the time and no specific reason beyond that. The bad area is about the last 3/4" - 1" of the barrel as well as the...
I've got a Ruger Old Army I bought off Gunbroker about a year ago that I'm not sure what to do with. I've had plenty of good transactions on various gunsites with Old Armies but this was my first and only purchase off Gunbroker. As it turned out, what was listed as a gun with a "strong bore" had...
