I'm not a USP expert, but I don't think the full size mags will fit in the compact. Perhaps someone else will chime in to confirm that.

The .40 S&W mag is a little wider than the 9mm mag and won't fit. If you're looking for more rounds, MecGar makes a 15 rounder that fits flush.

Afterthought... HK USP holds 13 + 1 - OR - 16 + 1 with the jet funnell and extended mags. You can get a varient with safety and decock or decock only I believe. Might be worth a look.

Beretta 96 .40 = 11 rounds. Sig 226 .40 = 12 rounds. (yep, same as the 229)

My $.02... Single Action: Ruger Single Six Double Action: S&W 617. This (or similar gun, Taurus maybe?) would be my first choice in a .22 revolver. It will allow you to practice your DA trigger pull as well as allow you to shoot SA for precision target practice.

What is your "gotta have in your collection" pistol? Can be something you already own or something from your wish list. For me it is a high quality, full size, .45 ACP 1911 (Wilson, Baer, Brown, custom, etc.).

At mine we can shoot any handgun caliber. Rifles in handgun calibers are "technically" allowed but anything other than a .22 gets you some dirty looks from the guy at the desk.

One more G17 vote here. Yes, they are uninspiring, but for size/weight/capacity/reliability they are pretty compelling. And the short trigger reset is a big plus in my book.
