I can't speak to cubic foot volume, but the last large, mature bull I shot put 275 lbs. of packaged meat in my freezer. I have two small chest freezers, which were adequate.

If either of the top screws have loosened, the slide will bind and cause difficult operation and eventually malfunction.

I swapped the larger for the smaller on mine. I have large but slender hands. The compact version offers plenty of purchase for me. Plus, I like the look better.

I cannot get mine to do what you are describing after many attemps. As soon as the slide has retracted far enough to see the breech face, the striker is no longer protruding at all. Seems like you may have a defect on your hands.
