How often do you go to the range?

Once or twice a week. Retirement has not provided me with enough time for all my hobbies.

When is it too hot to shoot?

Here in Florida during July and August the outdoor ranges do good business before noon. After that time, the ranges empty out. Same with the golf courses, the parks, even the beaches. Only the snowbirds sit on a Florida beach at 3 pm during July.

    1911 or polymer 45?

I'd go with the M&P or the Glock. The M&P fits my hand better, so it's my personal choice. My 1911 is a great gun, but I never carry it.

    Why a "truck gun"?

My Ruger LC9 goes from my left shorts/pants pocket to the driver door pocket when I drive. Being left-handed, those are the natural places to carry a firearm. My Uncle Mike's pocket holster works great in both places.

What are gun shows good for?

Gun shows in Tampa are a waste of time. Crowded, no bargains, $6 parking, $8 admission. Ammo is cheaper at Walmart. I'd rather stay home and mow the lawn.

I am finally Closing the "Gun Show Loophole"!

Went to the Tampa gun show twice. $5 to park. $8 admission. No bargains. I won't waste my time again. The internet is my gun shop.

My first Negligent Discharge -hopefully my last

Just like a near-miss car accident caused by a foolish driving error should make one a better driver, your accidental discharge should turn you into a better/smarter gun owner.

Plastic to 1911, and back to Plastic

I love my 1911 and find it to be my most accurate pistol. But I never carry it. I prefer my S&W M&P's or my Ruger LC9. They are smaller, always function flawlessly, need no upgrades (in my opinion), and are easier to take down and clean. I can make a motorcycle comparison... A 1911 is like a...

    Ruger LC9

Love my LC9. I have about 500 rounds through it so far with no malfunctions. It's my favorite carry gun. It takes practice to get familiar with the trigger pull. I shoot it at the range every two weeks.

Florida CCW/F Licensees, how was your carry class?

I took my class at "Shoot Straight" too. Taught by a member of the Tampa police swat team, the info was excellent and delivered with competence and humor. He provided some excellent stories about the legal problems that can bite you if you do use your gun in a self-defense situation. "Shoot...

Is it okay to store guns in a hot garage?

In hot humid places, everyone I know has central air conditioning. Here in Florida, I made sure to put my gun safe in a walk-in closet. So my guns are always cool and dry. My garage gets to be over 100 degrees on July and August afternoons and the humidity is over 90%.

    Walmart Special Order

Sometimes your firearm purchasing experience at Walmart depends on the staff. If the store was smart (and my local Walmart was) they hired folks knowledgeable and enthusiastic about guns and ammo. I have always had a pleasant buying experience at my Walmart (purchased a Henry .22 lever action...

    Body type for concealed carry

I'm 6'2" and 190. I find cargo pants or cargo shorts work great with a pocket holster. No imprinting at all, very comfortable, easily accessible, easy to remove from the pocket and place in the door compartment of the car when I'm driving.
