Anyone else uses vastly different guns for carry?

Without a doubt I shoot 357 better. But up to about 7 yards I shoot with the 40 good enough. I prefer to have the 357, but 40 can often be more convenient to carry discreetly.

Anyone else uses vastly different guns for carry?

It is illegal to open carry where I live, so my options are concealed only.

The only thing these two have in common, is that they are both on my license to carry. Otherwise these handguns could not be any more different. Having said that, I feel very comfortable with either one of them.

If you could have only one pistol?

For me, 3” Colt Python. Carry in any weather, conceals well even with shorts and nothing but Hawaiian shirt, good for range, target, trail, urban, whatever.

4 Choices for Self Defense in Urban /Suburban. Situations. Your Choice.

Personally I carry either 40 or 357, these are the only ones I have on my license to carry. 40 urban, 357 suburban for the most part, but I can switch em up depending on the mood.

Hypothetical: What would you carry, concealed?

Three things: 1. I live in SoCal and I legally carry 2. On trail I do occasionally carry 3” Python 3. The scenario you described happened to me. Big aggressive dog got off leash and went after my miniature schnauzer. Using deadly force to protect personal property (including pets) is not...

You know, without some sort of size reference, this target might as well be the size of a barn, also does your BFR have bipods and optics? 75 yards is a bit far for the revolvers I have handled.

You would be surprised, shot hundreds of rounds and no issues. It’s all a matter of practice really. Playing acoustic guitar (yeah, I do that) mauls your fingers pretty bad. After some time you just do it.

The 4” 686 is a fine firearm, but I just never found it comfortable to carry, perhaps if I had 3” 686 it would have been different. I do own OWB high rise holster for 686, but with 4” barrel it just does not feel as comfortable to carry as 3” Python in IWB holster. What I can say about 686 is...

You know, the first indication I had that Python is back was when I noticed it in the local gun store when I was buying ammo for range. Yeah perhaps I was living under a rock, but when I took it in my hand that was enough to put a deposit down.

This mirrors my experience. 1911 did click with me. Wonderful firearm when manufacturer gets it right. A bit bulky to carry in hot climate, for whatever reason 3” Python carries better with same weight. I guess long flat handgun does not work with my body in the same way. Awesome range gun...

I do have a sample of one, but I read up about problems in general, and majority align with my own experience. Side panel comes loose, the screw is behind the grip, shooter does not know to tighten that screw after removing grip - this results in lock work sticking and gun sent back to factory...

Personally, I believe .357 is the better choice, just because 38 Special is so available and relatively cheap for range practice.

I did order and try service grips, but went back to stock grips. I did not find it was making much of a difference when carrying, but stock grips fit my hands better.
