I bought an old double barrelled, double hammer shotgun recently. It is in bad shape and the only identifier that I can see is some sort of shield on the shoulder of the stock behind the hammers.
What can I use to clean a few layers of rust off in order to find out more about the gun?

The SN is 7337## and the barrel address is Stratford. So I guess it would at be pre-'82. Thanks for the additional pinpoint of the circa.
