    Changing your ambi safeties?

I replaced my single sided safety with one off a RIA tactical like yours, I really like it except for the small bit more work it is to remove from the frame. To each their own, but I sometimes use the "lefty" paddle when shooting weak hand stages in IDPA. BTW they are a bit pricey, but I really...

    Link To Dangerous 1911 Restoration

Tuner, did you see the part where someone destroyed that Ithaca slide with vice grips? At least he isn't planning to use that slide! :) I personally would not shoot that pistol except in a ransom rest, remotely fired from 50 feet, and then only with powder puff loads. I think the main drama...

    Silver soldering

plus you can always run a die over the thread to straighten out the buggered up area of the thread which will be small compared to all the remaining thread.

    Silver soldering

BBBBill, HD didn't put the pin on it, he just stated to tack TIG weld it. Pin AND weld over the pin is still fine.

    DBR, point well made.

    Silver soldering

Sorry didn't mean to lecture on NFA rules, but I couldn't tell your level of knowledge from the post, especially the part about wanting to remove it later. Yes you will need flux specifically designed for silver solder. To answer HD's question, the small TIG weld would not pass the ATF's anal...

    Silver soldering

To make it "ATF Legal" you need to use 1100 degree silver solder to PERMANENTLY attach the flash hider/muzzlebrake to make it over 16" in length. Alternately you could pay the tax and jump thru the hoops to register it as a SBR. I'm not sure I would be able to remove a threaded attachment that...

Nice work, pretty ingenious use of what you had on hand!

    msh pin

+1 To Jolly Rogers, that's how the design works and the reason for the groove in the middle of the MSH pin. I'll bet you can just push the pin back flush, it should require a light tap to seat properly.

making my Ruger 44mag carbine accurate?

I was loading using published data, in fact well below the listed maximum. What worked for me may not work for others, therefore I won't publish it or recommend it. That data probably did not take into account the gas system, as rc points out. Use only published data, but I guess I should have...

making my Ruger 44mag carbine accurate?

I used to own one and made a lapse in judgment one day and sold it. Factory pistol ammo was pretty dismal at 50-100 yards, but my handloaded 240 grain xtp's would shoot minute of pieplate at 80-100 yards offhand. I figured if I could hit that pieplate with 8 shots, I could hit a deer at that...

Carry with chamber empty or loaded?

my Glock always has one in the chamber if I'm not shooting IDPA. I use a paddle holster that covers the trigger completely and I am trained not to put my finger on the trigger until I'm ready to shoot.
