I will add that I've had some occasional discoloration on cases from the oils left in the chambers. As long as it's just a discoloration, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Now, if you can feel it, or if it's like hdwhit says above, i.e. the bright ring, you're best bet is to just scrap the case.
Wow. I can't narrow it down to just one as I've inherited several guns from both sides of my family that all have a story behind them that makes them special.
One would be the little H&R 929 .22 snubbie that was the first gun I ever fired. My mom had pictures of my Grandpa holding it and me...
Looks really interesting!
I've loaded some similar length .44 Magnums loaded to light .44 Russian/Special levels. Talk about powder puff! I usually cut Magnums back to Special length and then back to Russian or American length as splits develop.
Yes, I really hate throwing out cases...
I carry the 129 grain +P Hydra Shok in my S&W J frame. Not something I'd enjoy plinking with, but I do believe it'll do it's intended job quite nicely!
Had a Rossi 971 some 20 years ago and it was a good little gun. Tight, accurate and smooth. Traded it off for a stainless Ruger SBH. Loved the Rossi, but just too good of a trade to turn down. Guy still has the Rossi and loves it. But, I've handled a few new Rossis and I haven't been...
I have run upwards of 500 rounds through my DW 1911 since it was last cleaned with no issues at all. Admittedly, the ammo used was probably about 50-50 lead and jacketed, but all handloaded. I sure wouldn't have expected the kind of buildup that you describe in only 600 rounds.
I sold tons of those during the time I worked in a local gun store. Many to fathers who wanted a fun little handgun to shoot with the kids and many, many more to guys who wanted a reliable little gun to have on the hip or in the boat while fishing.
I had one for a while that I picked up used...
Gotta agree, .32s are a blast!
My first was a little Arminius HW-3 snubbie that I inherited from my Grandpa. At first I thought it was just a little piece of German junk, but when I finally decided to take it to the range I found out that it's actually pretty accurate and REALLY fun to...
I use a little of it all. I picked up a bunch of Frankford Arsenal flip top ammo boxes several years ago for next to nothing, so I use them a good bit. I do also have several freezer bags and a good many styrofoam/cardboard boxes. And all of them are packed into ammo boxes or a couple of old...
I've been using Unique in everything from .32 S&W Long up to .44 Magnum and .45 Colt in handguns and have used untold pounds in 12 gauge loads.
Newer lots have been changed slightly to make it cleaner burning, but it is as versatile as ever. It is one of those powders that I will always...
Been shooting revolvers of all kinds for many years and have had a few screws loosen up on many of them. My current problem child is a S&W 37 made in '81. I have to keep an eye on the cylinder latch screw on it as it will back out within a couple of cylinders downrange.
As an aside, part of...
A town near here has the "you qualify with it and you can carry it" rule. One of the officers carries a blue Colt Delta Elite 10mm. His dad was a State Trooper years ago, and they were issued Deltas. He kept his when they went to Glocks and now his son is using it!
