I'll toss in another Contender vote. Particularly in light of 'experimenting with reloading'. Very strong gun (check loading manuals for 'Contender only' data...), versatile, and potentially extremely accurate. Big plus, IMHO, is slower, possibly more thoughtful shooting - I have a great range...

In my experience, in northern VT, you need to take the shipment to an actual terminal - the 'stores' are not company ops. My local UPS terminal has been fine to deal with. FedEx, a PITA. If you're not near a UPS terminal you're in for a bad time...

Another fan/owner here. Very well made, very accurate out of the box. Omnivorous as well - even CCI Quiets reliably cycle mine. You do want to pay attention to the possibility of the chipping issue - see "Classic Extractor Mod" thread on Rimfire Central. Not difficult, just a little time...

Most anything Ohaus - if you watch flea-bay you can score an excellent beam (mechanical, rather than electronic) scale within your range. If you check the photos provided you'll find many 'name' scales are actually rebranded Ohaus units. See, for instance...

I've small frame DWs and a Speed Six. Overall, much as I like my Dans, I'd go with the Ruger. Easier maintenance, and I think (don't know, as my Dans are all 4"+) the Ruger might be a bit 'better' (lighter, possibly a bit thinner) for CCW. If a range/woods gun, a toss-up, IMHO. In any event...
