It was probably grunge in the chamber. This is also the time of year when shooters carry their firearms to the range in a air conditioned car or truck. When taken out of the vehicle the gun is a moisture magnet causing bad things to happen.
Or soak the trailing end of an old Bore Snake in Windex and pull it thru the bore while it's still hot a couple of times. Cleans the bore and chamber well enough till you can do a thorough cleaning.
Long-Long Ago and in a land Far-Far Away....I had a habit of reaching through the carry handle of my M16 to hit the bolt release. Once, in a very big hurry to reload I somehow had my pinky finger in the chamber when the bolt slammed shut, Not recommended! LOL
I tried a brass catcher recently and was not impressed. Caused jam's, cases hung up in the web/netting material and actually melted some of the nylon material of the bag. POS from Aim Surplus.....Ed
