    642 Club Part Three

It's been a while since I've posted 'round these parts, but I am happy to say the 642 is being carried and shot as much as ever. Some of the other gear changes from time to time, and there are a few new guns in the rotation, but none of them have replaced the 642.

    My Range Won't Let Me

Pardon the zombie thread resurrection here, but I just wanted to note that this project has been resurrected in the form of a blog series over at The Excelsior Training Group. I will try to post updates here as I have them.

    Ideal load for .38

sc1911cwp - I know this sounds a little odd, but try a 148 gr. WC load in that gun. While I don't recommend them for social work, I have found them to be EXTREMELY accurate in the x42 guns and also very light on recoil. Generally, when I introduce someone to the snub, that's the load I start...

For $250? Eesh. Jump on that.

    642 Club Part Three

Thanks, Sixgunner. I think I've been "aboard" since the original 642 club, but that's usually as a lurker. :)

    642,need help.

It's quite possible what you need isn't a trigger job - it's better trigger control. That may sound snide, but consider: The trigger on the 642 is designed to be a little heavier for a number of good reasons. Rather than modifying the gun in a way which may cause it to be unsuitable for its...

Charter Arms Mag Pug vs Rossi in .357 2" ?

Buy a used Ruger or Smith, if you can find it. I do have a Rossi 461 that has never given me any problems, but you'll notice the quality difference, if only in the triggers.

    S&W M10 Club

If Model 64 shooters are allowed to play, here's my 4" HB much-carried, much-shot M64. Aside from being a very reliable carry gun, it's also won me more than a few IDPA matches.

    S&w m19-4

Update: After taking the sideplate off, it looks like the cylinder stop spring is bent out of shape. It seems that sometimes when you pull the trigger the cylinder stop simply won't go down, presumably because the spring isn't compressing correctly. I've ordered a new one and it'll be here by...

    S&w m19-4

Christmas came early this year - the wife gave me a 19-4 as an early Christmas/Birthday present. I'd seen the gun in a pawn shop a few months back and showed a lot of interest in it, so she took it into her head to get it for me. All in all I gotta say that's pretty neat. :) Pictures to follow...

    My Range Won't Let Me

Paul, thanks for that article. I'll be reading that over lunch today. Meanwhile, the eBook is coming along very well. Here's an excerpt for one of the early sections in the book, laying down some ground rules for effective practice...

    My Range Won't Let Me

Wow, guys. VERY helpful responses. This is a great point and it's a major part of my training regimen (both IDPA and handloading). I plan on having a section in the book on how to get the most out of your IDPA training, since it's easy to fall into the trap of doing things that are good for...

    My Range Won't Let Me

For the month of December over at the Gentleman Adventurer (my personal, somewhat multi-topic blog; gun posts are on Wednesdays :) ), I’ll be posting a series of excerpts and photos from a new eBook I’m working on entitled My Range Won’t Let Me. The purpose of the book is to help establish...

    Charter or S&W .38 J frame?

I think this has already been said, but... Get the Smith. Brand new J-Frames are going for $350 a pop at my local gun shows these days. I'm thinking at that price, I need to pick a new one up too.
