Tikka T3 vs Win Mod 70 Featherweight

jmr: I gave the Howa a long hard look. I own a Weatherby Vanguard, and it has been a great rifle. I like that everything, the trigger guard, magazine, and that whole assembly is metal on the Howa/Weatherby. Also, my Weatherby has been extremely accurate. I would get the Howa, but for basically...

Success! Shooting my First Rifle Reloads

So a couple of days ago I stopped out at the range and shot my first rifle reloads out of my .270 Win. I am not a very good shot from a bench, so it usually takes me a few shots to figure out how to get steady. I sent my first two fouling shots downrange, and then fired a four shot group from my...

Tikka T3 vs Win Mod 70 Featherweight

Swede: Looks like a nice collection of orphans. I will admit, if rifles came down to looks, I would way rather own the Winnie over the Tikka, but I have to keep pinching myself and remembering that this is supposed to be a utilitarian hunting rifle, and I shouldn't let looks get in the way too...

Tikka T3 vs Win Mod 70 Featherweight

H&Hhunter, you seem to exactly understand why I am interested in a .300 Win Mag, and I am glad that someone does. It seems like every other person on this forum hates on the .300. Not sure why. If you read enough threads that mention the .300 winny, you would swear that it is the hardest...

Tikka T3 vs Win Mod 70 Featherweight

That's fine. As a waterfowl hunter shooting 3" magnum 12 gauge shells all day, I am used to it. Plus, once its sighted in, it is not going to be for paper punching, just load development for hunting, and hunting.

Tikka T3 vs Win Mod 70 Featherweight

I keep asking for advice on which rifle to buy. There are simply too many good rifles on the market, I just can't get it narrowed down to one. Wish I could buy a few, but I just have the cash for one good rifle the must stand up to hunting abuse for years to come. I basically had it narrowed...

H-110 vs Lil' Gun for 357 Mag

The Cast Performance bullets are hard cast, and have a gas check. I haven't used them yet, but I don't think 1,400 fps should be a problem with H 110 or Lil' Gun. These are the same 180gr bullets that Buffalo Bore uses in their load that pushes 1,400 fps. As far as the powder goes, I still...

H-110 vs Lil' Gun for 357 Mag

Thank you for the recommendations. I checked out the load data for both powders, and neither one will push the 180 grain bullets up to 1,200 fps. H 110 and Lil' gun have at least 200 fps on on AA #9 and Enforcer. What makes you think they are better for .357? Just curious, not trying to pick a...

H-110 vs Lil' Gun for 357 Mag

From another thread right now: youngda9 said: So now this makes me wonder if Lil' Gun or H 110 are good choices, but really, what else is there for maximum power loads that even comes close for 180 grain bullets. Anyone have anything else to say about Lil' Gun? Less muzzle blast than H110?

H-110 vs Lil' Gun for 357 Mag

I am trying to decide what powder to use for full power heavy loads in my GP. First, I am looking at using Cast Performance 180gr gas checked bullets, but I can't decide which powder is best for this application. H 110 seems very well established, and somewhat of a standby, but Lil' Gun has...

    OAL Question

Gamestalker: I am starting off loading for my .270 win. I am using Hodgdon 4831sc and I am experimenting with 130 grain Remington corelokts and Hornady Interlock speer points. I found my maximum overall length by just barely seating a bullet, and then chambering it and closing the bolt. I used...

    OAL Question

I just started reloading for rifles, so my other experience is only with handgun ammo. I have been experimenting with different bullet seating depths, starting at just off the lands, and going all of the way down to minimum OAL. As OAL is increased from the minimum OAL listed in load books...

    Barnes TSX Load Data

Actually, if you check my original post, I give an example of a load that is larger for a TSX than for normal jacketed bullets. I have also seen other data that gives lower loads like you mentioned. I guess there is no rule of thumb

    38spl loads in a 357mag case?

No, not as far as I know. This is in effect what I am doing with my target loads. If you check your load manual, there is often times an overlap between the maximum load for .38 special (especially if you look at .38 special +p loads) and the minimum load for .357 magnum. In fact, the load I...

    Barnes TSX Load Data

Sam, That's also something I had heard, and why I didn't want to buy the manual in the first place. Guess I will thumb through it at the store. Is there a general rule of thumb with these bullets? If I always start at the minimum load for jacketed bullets in my manual and work up shouldn't I be...
