Targets on their way..... Mykeal, my targets are shot and they'll be in the (air) mail in the morning - heaven knows how long they'll take to make their 3,800 mile trip - hopefully in time for the deadline! It was a beautiful spring day when I shot them, temp 22 degrees C and blue sky as...

Thanks Indian Outlaw - I guessed Uberti or Pietta, as the Euroarms have a slightly different frame shape. As it happens, I also want some replacement grips - in a full 'anatomical' target style. This is probably an odd sounding request on your side of the pond, but as you may know, we aren't...

Indian Outlaw, welcome. I don't think anyone on the register here has a Lyman - although I'm guessing it's made for Lyman by one of the Italian makers? Be interesting to know.

    cap and ball rabbit gun

Ok, fair comment - a heart/lung shot is going to cause rapid death I guess - especially with a .44 RB! However.... I'm really not trying to be difficult - I just think that given the OP's stated aim of a humane kill and edible meat afterward, a headshot is the best option - and that whilst...

    cap and ball rabbit gun

Busyhands, I think you mis-understood my comments - I am not advocating shooting rabbits that way, rather I was trying to say: 'if you can make a humane head shot every time, then fine, but if you miss and/or shoot the rabbit in the body, you will a) kill it inhumanely and b) ruin the meat...

    Euroarms of america

+1 for good quality on older Euroarms - my '58 is 1974 vintage and is in really good condition considering the age. Not sure about the more recent ones - however I think I'd seek out a cared for used example - it's going to get dirty anyway and you can spend the $ you save on powder, caps and...

    cap and ball rabbit gun

I have never shot an animal with any pistol caliber round, but if you are a good enough shot to hit the head every time, why not? (other than per my earlier post, the other rabbits will take an hour or more to return...) If on the other hand, you hit Buggs COM with a .44 round ball, I wonder...

    cap and ball rabbit gun

You may find that MEC stops by and offers his perspective - if I remember correctly, he has accounted for more than a few wabbits with a '51 Navy. Although I am somewhat envious of you having the freedom to shoot'em with cap and ball, ('tis against the law here) I reckon that it won't be too...

BP firearms designed for self defense

While we are on the subject... I have always thought the sound of a C&B - especially if it's got 30+gns of powder in it - would ruin your hearing for a good few minutes - potentially an issue in an HD situation. I'm not suggesting popping your ear defenders on before 'engaging' an intruder...

BP firearms designed for self defense

I've often heard '1st time' C&B shooters say how amazed they were by the smoke and flames - often saying something like 'how did folks shooting indoors ever see the target for a second shot' - so I guess that would be a concern. As for setting the home on fire...well, I see your point, but I...

    Fun Guns

Another one for the .22RF - my Armscor MAK-22 (the one that looks a bit like an AK-47) - have two 25 round mags for it and set up 30 steel plates last weekend - knock 'em down against the clock! :D

    Competition Pistols

It's not currently in production, but the pistol below was produced here in the UK by gunsmith and engineer Alan Westlake..... very much the same idea. He also produces a simpler version.

    Too pretty to shoot?

Agree with the 'guns are for shooting' perspective - however, I'd seek out a really good gunsmith before even cycling the hammers, just to ensure correct timing/bolt drop. That way you'll minimise (maybe even prevent) marring of the cylinders. Just my 2 cents..... :D
