    Taurus model 85 stainless, new... $275, or $235 after mail-in $40 rebate?

I have a Side Guard "Minimal Clip" that I like quite a bit. It's a fairly basic leather holster, but it's great quality. I've been using it to carry an older 85 loaded with snake shot around my farm for about a year, and other than the leather getting darker from being soaked with sweat, it...

    Taurus model 85 stainless, new... $275, or $235 after mail-in $40 rebate?

If you're asking me, yes, the one I got was the stainless model 2-850029FS.

$235 is an okay price, but you should be able to get a better price if you shop around. There are some crazy deals on these revolvers right now. I picked one up last week locally for $201. After tax and rebate, the final price was $178.

    Ruger AR-556 vs S&W Sport 2

I don't have any experience with the S&W, but the Ruger I bought a few months back has been perfect. I, too, agonized over which one to get, and in the end, I decided there was really no difference. I've had good experience with Ruger's customer service in the past, and I prefer the ergonomics...

Marlin xt-22 vr on the way

Thanks to Kookla letting me know that Cabela's re-listed these rifles after cancelling my original order, I did manage to get one at the clearance price. I picked it up a few weeks ago, and finally got a scope for it and sighted it in. I've only put a hundred rounds or so through it in two...

Review of the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111

Gunbuyer.com has 'em for $209 right now, free shipping. If you've got an FFL near you that does transfers for reasonably cheap, that's probably the best deal going. I think they're based in Florida, so they won't charge you sales tax.

    Glock 42 issue, any ideas??

Take it back. If the store is the kind of place that will get pissy with you for bringing it back, it's probably not the kind of place you want working on your guns, anyway. You paid for a service, it's not annoying to expect them to do it properly.

Where do you rank the 38 snubby as far as a defensive weapon

The first time I shot a snubnose revolver, having heard all the talk about how they're hard to shoot, inaccurate, only for experienced shooters, and require constant practice to even be remotely competent with, I was expecting the target to look like I'd shot it with buckshot from 50 yards, if I...

    Taurus 82 light primer strikes

I ended up taking just a tiny bit off the hammer nose (maybe the thickness of two sheets of paper), and that seems to have resolved it. Fired a whole box of the same ammo with no misfires. Previously, that many rounds would have had at least three or four light strikes. Doesn't seem to have...

Marlin xt-22 vr on the way

Sadly, I got an e-mail from Cabela's today saying that my order was cancelled. No explanation given, but I suspect they oversold them on backorder and can't get enough from Marlin to fill the orders, so they're just cancelling them. Very disappointed.

Marlin xt-22 vr on the way

I'm looking forward to hearing how yours shoots. I ordered one on a whim the other night. After the rebate and a few Cabela's Bucks I had from my Club card, the final price will be under $100, even with tax. I figured I couldn't go too far wrong at that price. They were shown as backordered...

Looking for Advice on New Rifle Design

There are a few possible explanations for that. One is that there is a market, but it's too small to be worth the investment in developing an entirely new rifle. If you only sell a couple thousand units per year to people who are burying them, a large manufacturer probably won't see it as...

    Taurus 82 light primer strikes

Ratshooter, you may have cracked this case wide open... I tried the same experiment with mine, and indeed, I can get quite a bit more range of forward movement on the firing pin if I put a thin buffer between the hammer and hammer block. I may try to take a little material off the hammer nose...

    Taurus 82 light primer strikes

Not reloads; factory ammo. Thanks for the insight, looks like I'll try replacing the mainspring and see what happens.

    Taurus 82 light primer strikes

I just got a great deal on an older Taurus 82 (1995 manufacture). Took it out for its first range trip yesterday, and about one in ten shots was a light primer strike. Primer was dimpled, but didn't go off. This ammo worked fine in other revolvers, so I suspect the gun. Is there anything I...
