    Trapdoor Grouping

I don't know. We can all make theories. One problem is, bullet manufacturer's have 300 yard/300 meter wind tunnels, but no further. I was squadded next to the Berger Ballistician who developed loads, and ran lot acceptance tests in a 300 meter windtunnel. (or was it yards?) He claimed that...

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

Perhaps you did notice the topic is "Are 44 Revolvers Dying?" Lets see, 445 Supermag, a revolver cartridge. A cartridge based on the 44 Magnum. A new development, but much in the box, so to say. I was unaware of 445 Supermag cartridge, new to me. 444 Marlin. That's a 1960's rifle cartridge...

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

I agree with Mike Venturino in that the 44 caliber has remained stagnant since the 44 Magnum. Been a lot more new 45 caliber cartridges and 500 caliber than 44. I think the market wants bigger boomers, and everything from 45 to 50 gives them what they want.

I guess I am going to have to slug my barrel. I gave up on shooting it, it was so inaccurate.

    Trapdoor Grouping

I had a ten picture limitation in the previous post, but I thought a P.J O'Hare micrometer would be of interest. Thanks to Google books. I have a USMC front and rear on one of my M1903's. The blade is wider, of more use, is the battle sight zero is 200 yards with the USMC front sight...

My 1884 the rear sight This is a very complicated sight, and I am going to claim, what you see in the Army sight designs, the influence of target shooting games. I know from my 1913 Small Arms book, and from other documents, Soldiers were shooting on round bull targets. There are 1000...

    Brownells Moly Bore Paste

There were those that swore by moly, and those that swore at it. A long range champ who rebarreled a number of my rifles, told me that his long range scores were consistently down by a point, maybe two, when he used moly. He had a great barrel he took off his rifle and stored it in the rafters...

    Trapdoor Grouping

I am very curious as to the bullet you are using. I was told the 1884's had 0.460 diameter tubes. What I do know, my 0.458" commercial cast bullets leaded and were very inaccurate. I do believe it is impossible to blow enough lube a blackpowder barrel. The more, the merrier. I have no idea why...

    A new monopoly?

Only one gunpowder producer in the US, it is not as if we American's have a lot of choice.

    Tisas M1911A1 ASF versus WW2 Remington-Rand

Per an inflation calculator, $350 in 1999 is worth $656 today. (After Biden inflation, you better get used to using an inflation calculator) . Obviously $656 is not $2,125.00. Yogi Beri: "Its tough to make predictions, especially of the future" . There are a number of "legendary" firearms that...

    Are you "brand loyal"?

I am loyal to a brand as long as I get the quality I expect. I have no long term expectations other than I hope the company is around in five years. Ownership changes have ruined brands for me: the American factory closes down, production is moved over seas, the majority of parts are...

    First failure

This RIA ejected magazines when new the magazine latch was either insufficient, or as I now suspect, held the magazine too high. As the slide went forward, the magazine was ejected down! RIA sent me a replacement, this was the old one Magazines sat in the pistol very low with the...

    Tisas M1911A1 ASF versus WW2 Remington-Rand

Interesting! May the Divine Being will grant me the extra lifetime to see Tisas repros increase in value. I would gladly accept an additional 70 years of life to see that happen, as the early Italian reproductions came on the market in the 1950's. I am afraid, like always, my timing is awful.

    Gravity Chambering

I don't know if this would be called "Confirmation Bias" or not. However, we tend to see only what we want to see. I have been there any number of times, where if I did not conduct "useless" safety checks, I would never have discovered the something that was amiss. As much as I hate empty...

Can a bad trigger help you be a better shooter?

Is nasty medicine better than sweet medicine? Concentrating on sight alignment and trigger is great, but a bad trigger will stay a bad trigger, and your trigger pull mechanics will not improve because of it. The factory triggers on my Ruger MKII's had a lot of take up, creep, and over...
