Ruined how? You probably need to back off your expander die. Wouldn't be a bad idea to stop right there and go back and reread the instructions that came with your dies. They will tell you exactly how to set them up in the press to work properly.

When I first started casting, not too long ago, I just picked up a Lyman 4500 luber/sizer, sizing dies and top punches for the various calibers a load, and a bunch of sticks of Lyman Orange Magic lube. A this point with as much as I shoot I wish I could afford a Star.

When your brass starts falling closer to the gun. A good spring of the correct weight should keep the empties around six feet from the gun. Also, IMHO, ISMI makes the best 1911 recoil springs.

I made a brass catcher. Just used some 1X2 to make a frame about 24"X18" and used some fiberglass screen to make a net on the frame. Then I attach the frame to a camera tripod. Pretty simple, I just stand with the pistol right next to the frame opening and all the brass falls into the screen...

I carry my G30 in a Kydex IWB rig I made for it everyday, it goes in and out of the holster a few times a day and the finish is fine. Just keep the gun and holster clean, it's the crud and scratches your gun or knife inside the kydex.

Interesting. I have a PT1911 and a PT92 that are fine guns. I did have a 24/7 that just sucked. With all my other pistols I can shred the Bullseye out of a target at 25 yards, that 24/7 was like shooting a damn shotgun. Just to make sure it wasn't just me I had a few other people try it as well...
