    CZ 75 .40 or EAA Witness 10mm

Sorry, haven't bought or priced one in a while. Based on the trend I saw when I was looking, I think that comes out lower than I would have expected. The gun is certainly worth it, but I don't know if anybody can beat it.

Border Patrol agent fatally shoots rock-throwing man

That would have been one of my guesses, Crazed SS, and it is indeed a different world. I know it's tricky where you are, but I'd really suggest learning the laws which apply to you now. Learning them the hard way isn't nearly so much fun. One of my closest friends in all the world has a...

Border Patrol agent fatally shoots rock-throwing man

Crazed SS, I have to ask: How much training have you had on use of lethal force? I ask because the way it works around here is that if you don't really believe somebody needs killing right the heck now, the state of Texas suggests-rather strongly- you not shoot at him. Just a thought.

    Denied check = police presence???

Let me tell you about the HPD officer who interrupted a NICS check, identified himself to the NICS operator, said he'd once arrested the purchaser and had testified at the trial where the purchaser was convicted of a felony, and then asked if the nice FBI operator would like him to arrest the...

    Cetme 308

I picked up a Century a few years ago. Generally, a fun plinker. Details? Only a few hundred rounds but no problems so far, 20lb trigger needed some work, call it a 3-4 moa rifle, fairly rough finish (ask me how much was involved in getting the scope mount on), I'd swear the muzzle brake on...

    CZ 75 .40 or EAA Witness 10mm

I've owned three CZ-75s in .40, and two 10mm Witnesses, so I may not be the best guy to answer this question. No problems with any gun, and the only monkeying I did with any of them was fitting a .22 conversion kit. Only my father has been able to talk me out of one. The CZs are more...

    help id this mauser

At a glance? Model 1898/22. A '98 Mauser full-size rifle (29" barrel) made between the wars in Czechoslovakia for export. As a group, these were well-made guns, but they had a hard life, and most of them I've seen have shown every bit of it. I'm assuming it's 8X57, but have somebody who...

    What's your off-the-beaten-track dream gun?

I've got a safe full that actually work, but if I'm dreaming? Put me down for the 8X57JS Luger.

anybody read Martin van Creveld's book "the transformation of war"?

Haven't read that one, but if I've got my Van Crevelds straight, he wrote a pretty good book on logistics. Not the best I've ever read, but it was tolerable. Take care,

    Decocking without a decocking lever

One thing I'd suggest keeping in mind for de-cocking manually is that you keep in mind what happens if you slip and have a negligent discharge. If you do it Steelharp's way, the front end is still dangerous, and you're not going to like what happens at the back end, but it doesn't involve...

WWII 1943 Platoon vs. Current 2003 Platoon

Telewinz, I've spent about all the time on this that I can. Frankly, you can't reach the correct conclusions as long as your data is so flawed, and I've suggested a few topics in this thread, although I'll suggest paying particular attention to the origin and actual meaning of the 5:1 ratio and...

WWII 1943 Platoon vs. Current 2003 Platoon

Yeah, there is lots of stuff out there detailing the Shermans' advantages. Just trying to share some of it with the heathens. ;) Still, very little "what if" in this, and what there has been is in the nature of trade-offs. Does 2x=4y, or some such. Nobody is playing "Could the war have ended...

WWII 1943 Platoon vs. Current 2003 Platoon

Had company visit, had to take a day away. If G.I. grumbling is the yardstick, are we to assume that the G.I. was also eating the worst food in Europe? His criticism of the food is at least as vocal, and he was eating better than anybody in Europe. Albert Speer, 1 November 1944: “On...

WWII 1943 Platoon vs. Current 2003 Platoon

I now know what the co-ed in the horror films feels like. "Izzy dead yet?" Okay, from the top, fire: Shermans had early problems with unauthorized excess ammo, solved by better discipline and wet stowage. Panthers, OTOH, tended to catch fire just driving down the road, and the average...

WWII 1943 Platoon vs. Current 2003 Platoon

Ah, grasshoppers, at last you understand: The Sherman is the sound of one tank clapping. ;) Steve
