Talk me into or out of a Marlin 30-30

$325 for a JM made Marlin, assuming in good condition, would be a "Buy now" price for me. Recoil is not bad with the .30-30, great woods caliber. I have the 336 in .30-30 (1980 Texan) and .35 Remington (2008), both handle and shoot great. Plus a 1895 in .45-70, 1894C in .357 Remington...

Why do I want one? New Ruger GSR in .450 Bushmaster

Sorry, but I don't see the advantage of this rifle over a Marlin 1895 rifle, which has the ability of loadings from 250 to over 400 grains. The incrementally caliber increasing laws of the Rustbelt states are confounding. Indiana opened with several caliber-based centerfire calibers this year...

    Has anyone used Reed's Ammunition?

I've purchased and shot Reed's .357 Remington Maximum load in 180 gr Hornady XTP and the SSP load in my T/C Encore rifle last year . I was able to get 5 shot groups as good as 1"-1.5" shooting off a bench at 100 yards, so satisfied with accuracy. This will likely be a family member's rifle to...

    25-35 reloading?

Precision Reloading has the Hornady 117 gr Round nose soft point: https://www.precisionreloading.com/cart.php#!l=HN&i=2550 as does Graf and Sons. I was in Fin, Fur and Feather in Ashland, Ohio recently and they had maybe 10 boxes of the Speer 75 grain flat nose. MidwayUSA has Hornady brass...

    Scope for a Remington 22

I second Swampwolf's recommendation on the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire, plus the scope size to rifle ratio. I have a Marlin 39AS lever that I'm looking to place a Leupold FX-1 4X scope on, 7.5 oz weight sounds good to me.

    5 mm Rem. Mag ammo?

Ammo to Go has Centurion 50 ct boxes for $27. Interesting cartridge but not at those ammo prices.

    Lever Guns

Where else are you going to find a rifle action, (not a single shot) typically chambered in cartridges like .35 Remington, . 45-70, .30-30, .375 Winchester and .444 Marlin? All great deer cartridges plus suitable for bigger stuff. And the pistol calibers are just fun to shoot (I have the Marlin...

Birthday present -- Henry 45-70 with Leupold

Excellent, you're a great dad...a gift he can have for a lifetime. I'd love to see the Big Boy line have that finish.

    Where is the 357 brass?

Missouri Bullets has Starline in stock for $23/100 or $108/500.

Need guidance; 28-2 vs security 6

I had a 28 with a 4" barrel, it was a beefy 357 but pleasant to shoot...currently have a 4" Service Six and am very happy with it...I'd buy another in good condition for $400 and not think twice.

357 max with imr 4227 questions

This cartridge in a rifle is now legal in Ohio for deer hunting, hoping strong interest will help in more industry interest in component supplies...would love to see the Hornady SSP 180 grain bullet available again (temporarily out of production per the website).

    357 Maximum brass at Natchez

It had apparently sold out quickly (thanks for the notice, BullRunBear) but also found it now at Precision Reloading, about $30 per 100 count, Remington headstamp.

357 max with imr 4227 questions

Widener's has the Nosler Partition 180 grain hollowpoints, $20/50 count in stock. I had read these are being discontinued. Bought a few boxes to try in my T/C Encore, these may be a decent deer option to load.

    Newly acquired Rem 788 .308

I would leave the stock as is and change out the scope rings, if they don't work for you. It can be a very accurate, utility rifle that you could pay double the price for in a synthetic stock in a new rifle today. The magazines are becoming harder to find and pricey, you did very well. Great...
