I have an FNS-9 and I love it. 1911 grip angle and comes with a flat backstrap that matches my flat mainspring housing on my 1911. It's solid and well made, and so far (300 rounds or so) perfectly reliable. A great value with tritium night sights and three mags. To top it off its made in the USA...

Do you want it now because of the impending mag cap legislation? If so I would try to track down the mags now and buy the gun new when available.

The one I picked up from Bud's was manufactured in 1996. It is in good shape with some character. I put some Nill grips on it to dress it up a bit.

Check out Caracal. If you can past that they are Saudi they look interesting and have gotten great reviews. Designed by a guy that had a hand in both Steyr and Glock designs.

I picked up a model 17 Masterpiece. Looks as good as any, perhaps better, save the internal lock. Very nice trigger too.

In that price range, I would say STI Tojan. It's slightly more expensive, but you won't regret it. Just save up a couple hundred more dollars and put off the purchase for a month.
