I have been told that it is NOT the ammo loaded into the magazine which causes damage to the springs, it is the action of loading and unloading the magazine that will have more affect on the springs.
I keep mine loaded. I have newer magazines for concealed carry, and older magazines for range...
My side ... Colt Combat Commander in .45 acp, with 230 grain Gold Dot hollow points.
Her side ... Smith & Wesson Model 66 (.357) 2 1/2 inch Roundbutt , with .38 caliber Gold Dot hollow points.
Nearby ... Remington Model 1100 12 guage with 8 shot extension magazine loaded with 00 buck.
