    colt 1911s

In my opinion, Colt's are the best value in the low- to mid-priced 1911 segment. 1) They use the fewest MIM parts of major manufacturers in their price range, and the parts that are made of MIM (sear, disconnector, and mag catch) are intelligently chosen. 2) They are built closer to the...

    thoughts on the bps?

I love mine (a 20" Upland Special 12 GA.) It is my only shotgun, but I've shot 870s, 500s, M37s, and others. I think it is one of the best bargains out there right now. The machine work, fit and finish, bluing, and wood furniture is second to none. A comparably finished 870 Wingmaster or M37...

    Which AR-15 to buy?

Thanks, everyone, for the replies! I have looked at a handful of others not originally considered since I first posted, including Bushmaster, Windham, CORE-15, DPMS, and Colt. The Colt seems like a nice, albeit basic (in terms of bells and whistles, not quality) rifle, but it is out of my price...

    Which AR-15 to buy?

I generally agree with your points... from an accuracy standpoint, the 5R rifling and melonite seems to have an edge.

    Which AR-15 to buy?

I am in the market for my first AR-15 (first rifle, in fact.) I have it narrowed down to two choices, both of which I've handled at my local gun shop: Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport ($685) -Carbine-length gas system -Flat-top w/ Magpul folding rear sight -Melonite bore/chamber -"F" front site...

    Opinions on Colt XSE?

I have a Combat Elite, which I think is part of the XSE line, with some differences. My thoughts are... 1) It seems to be put together like a government-spec gun. It is tight where it needs to be but looser where it can be. Barrel lockup is absolutely rock solid, front and back. 2) The machine...

1911, Rock Island vs Custom (Kimber) break in theory.

I have a Colt Combat Elite that I bought new about 18 months ago. I've probably put 2000 rounds through it since (I don't get to shoot a lot, but I try to manage 100-150 rounds a month.) It is a fairly "loose" gun and was loose when I bought it, especially compared to some of the more...

    Beretta 9mm

Sure... I had one (the first gun I ever bought) for about 6 months. I bought it lightly used, put just shy of 1000 rounds down the barrel, and never had a single malfunction. It would swallow any ammo I tried it with. Ultimately, I traded it--for another Beretta, a lightly used M9--because I...

    Beretta 92 vs Springfield XD(m)

I own a Beretta 92. It is a great gun. Silhouette wise, it is virtually identical in size to government 1911. It is wider by a considerable margin, but noticeably lighter. The DA pull is long but smooth with no stacking. Its not revolver good but its good. The single action pull has about as...

    which 1911?

    I vote for: 1) A Dan Wesson RZ-45, or 2) A Colt Combat Elite

Need help fighting 2nd Amendment clown

There is a lot of persistent confusion about the meaning of "well-regulated." Today we understand "regulated" to mean "controlled," suggested an organization. In standard English usage in the 17th and 18th century, "well-regulated" meant "functioning properly." Literature and everyday writing...

Fitted an Ed Brown thumb safety and magazine catch this weekend...

Fitted an Ed Brown thumb safety and slide stop this weekend... After doing a fair amount of research and studying some illustrative how-to photographs, I successfully fit a Ed Brown tactical thumb safety to my Colt Combat Elite this weekend. I'll start by saying that I was pretty sure I was...

    Penitration through plaster

Not significantly. I have personally seen a 230-gr .45 FMJ penetrate a plaster ceiling (~1/2" of plaster on 1/4" wood lath), some 3/4" tongue & groove roof sheathing, felt paper, and asphalt shingles and keep right on going.
