    reworking old stock

I am reworking an old stock and want to remove some of the old oil, with which, the action area is saturated.I seem to remember that using something like flour, corn starch, maybe it was chalk; will do do the job. Any thoughts or help will be appriciated. TED

    Barrel Finish

When doing the final sanding/polishing of the barrel before bluing; should it be done longitudinally or circumferentially? What grit size (400, 800, 1200) is adequate for the final pass? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    .41 Mag Association

Had a 657 but finally got out of my stainless phase and found 57 (no dash) that has the smoothest trigger of all my Smiths. I carried it every day of a four month fishing/camping trip to the Rockies last summer.
