Rossi 92 or Henry Steel ?

I have the big boy steel in 357 with the 20 inch barrel, and it is a favorite of mine. My rifle cycles smoothly and feeds both 357 and 38 Special ammo. The solid top receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. I have used a weaver K4 scope for load development and accuracy testing. It...

    What's your powder measure technique?

I use an RCBS Uniflow measure with the small (pistol) cylinder. Click - Click. One brisk click on the upstroke and one of the downstroke. Works great on powders like H110, 4227, AA#9, AA#7, AA#5, 231 and Universal. I find consistency to a tenth of a grain on my RCBS digital scale. One...

    .45 Colt rifle loads?

You will see the best benefit in fps from the slower magnum powders such as 2400, H110, and Accurate No. 9. With fast to medium powders like Unique and Universal, you may see a 150 fps increase with the the longer rifle barrel. The slower powders can give you 300 or more fps increase. Tom

    357 Magnum Rifle data?

My experience with H110 is similar to your own. I shoot a Winchester (Miroku) 1892. The Cast Performance bullet you use is an "LBT Style" bullet. I actually have an LBT mold and cast my own 180 WFNGC bullets. Lubed with LBT soft blue lube and CCI 550 primer. 13.0 gr H110 Average 1508 fps...

Picked up 3 lbs of Unique.

I just went down to my reloading bench and threw 10 consecutive charges of Unique from an old cardboard 8 pound cylinder using my RCBS Uniflow powder measure. I briskly rotate the handle so that there is a positive click when I stop at the top and bottom of the throw. I do this to break up any...

    Chrono early and chrono often

Primers DO make a difference. I was doing some chronograph work yesterday with my 357 lever gun checking loads with H110 and my cast bullet. 10 shots of each load were fired with the chronograph 10 feet away. All components were identical except for the primers. WSP (standard) primer: Ave...

    .45acp and .45LC

In a semi auto yes. But if you have a Ruger Blackhawk convertible or a smith 625 45 ACP revolver, they can work well. Western powders has 45 ACP data for Bullets as heavy as 250 grains in both their Accurate and Ramshot powder lines.

    Bare lead bullets for 9mm

If you wish to load "oversize" bullets to fit your bore, the Lee Factory Crimp Die can cause a problem. To ensure reliable feeding, it will squeeze the case down to what Lee thinks it should be. If your bullet plus case wall are too big, it will swage down the bullet and you now have an...

    Casting for .45 Colt

Every rifle is a law unto itself as to what bullet and load will shoot accurately. In order to get the best accuracy, you will need to size the bullet to fit your barrel. I have a Marlin 1894 in 45 Colt and a Legacy Puma ’92 (made by Rossi) in 454. This also shoots 45 Colt. I found the...

Which of these three powders for 45acp?

For me, Unique is the way to go. It works well and is a bulky powder and if you accidentally double charge it, it is virtually impossible to fail to notice it. You won't be able to seat the bullet. I don't dispute that Bullseye is a fine powder, but with the low volume it occupies in the 45 ACP...

    Loading for a .357mag carbine

If you are looking a 180 grain deer hunting load for your 357 carbine, i would think you want it going a little faster than 1150 fps. Consider using H110 or W296 (actually the same powder) for top end performance. You can find the loading data on the hodgdon web site...

Need opinions on auto rim load for a 1917

Most reloading manuals have a separate section for 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim (AR). You will find the top end AR loads are a bit softer for any give powder/bullet combination than their ACP counterparts. For a vintage 1917 revolver, I would stay within the parameters of the lighter AR loads. Tom

    New reloader 650

If you are reloading a bottle neck rifle cartridge, you really should get a headspace gauge. (http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/714043/le-wilson-case-length-headspace-gage-300-aac-blackout?gclid=Cj0KEQiAreilBRDzrNfb6uqX4fwBEiQAk-MRY0BxnG2FG3eGchXGC1pah4TUA4nRr0Pc4_sdnv2wZdgaAnWM8P8HAQ) The...

    308 win for white tail

I have used the Sierra GameKing 150 grain bullet with Varget powder. It shoots 1 MOA out of my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle 308. Put it in the boiler room and you will have venison in the freezer. See the link here for photos of the "pathology report" of the deer.

    New Chrono; target beyond?

Ditto on that. Precisely aiming at exactly the same point (i.e. a target) should give greater consistency as to where the bullet passes over the sensors and might possibly reduce measurement variability. I freely admit that this is armchair theorizing and I have no evidence whatsoever that...
