POLL: Do you own one or more guns?

Thanks for voting, keep 'em coming! Yeah, Tex, I never know who reads these polls, but my hope is to give the (usually) anti news outlets who sponsor them a wake-up call. My activism angle: in this case, the poll is from my local news channel. Our small city has doubled in population during...

POLL: Do you own one or more guns?

Located on the right side of this main page, about halfway down: www. ktvz.com/index.html (remove space after www.) A reporter -- one of the local transplants from CA -- is shocked, SHOCKED, that rural Oregon residents can just....go buy a gun. Please vote in the poll as you see fit.

Got lucky on a SA Loaded!

Thanks for the reply. I wish we had something like that around here. Maybe I should start one. Congratulations on a great find!

Got lucky on a SA Loaded!

Just curious so that I can hone my bargain-finding skills: where did you find a deal like that? Local shop? The newspaper? Gunbroker? Friend?

Which is better, Glock or Springfield XD??

I prefer Glocks, due to the wide availability of OEM and aftermarket parts, the lower bore axis, and their better reputation (vs. XD) among many serious high-round-count shooters in classes and matches that I attend. Also, since my Glock Armorer certification, my ability to provide that level...

    FFL Transfer Fees

FFLs can charge what they want. Personally, my local kitchen table FFL charges $20. I like him, and enjoy our transactions. He once took the time to walk me through how to install an LPK in an AR lower. I wouldn't stop using him if I found $15 transfers elsewhere, but I would probably shop...

    Sharpener recommendation

I use the Spyderco Sharpmaker for general use and touch-ups, a set of Japanese waterstones for kitchen knives and very hard (>63)carbon steel, and strops for convex and other misc polishing. I did a series of stropping videos for Derek at KnivesShipFree. Check them out!

Why hasn't the market for a good disposable gun been filled?

What, like most firearms owners?

Elementary kids, classrooms and finger guns

I think you've handled it rather well: :D

    Only One: Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol

Before I answer, I gotta give the usual disclaimer copout for these threads: "Why?" For example, for permanent bugout I would select a certain set, in prolonged financial hardship requiring a selloff I would keep a different 3, house-on-fire-grab-3-quick is different yet, and if there was some...

Choosing a cheap gun...not by choice...

I've gotten a lot out of formal defensive handgun training. Dollar for dollar, my class fees have been my best-spent gun money so far. Every time I go to the range, I see the clowns who have never trained. You are smart to have budgeted for training -- do not skip it. Saying that you can...

    Front Sight

xyzpilot, when I attended FrontSight in November 2007, I just camped a few miles outside the gate, hidden from view of the road. I brought a small tent, but the weather was good and I just ended up sleeping under the stars. Very pleasant, and I saved a lot of gas and driving time. For a...

shady activity at the gunshow today

shooterfromtexas, just to clarify to story, was the buyer actually a "bum" (i.e. an obviously homeless individual) or just a guy? Either way, it sounds to me like you did the right thing. If you get a bad vibe, by all means pass on the deal.

    Ninjas?

Unfortunately, I am a sucker for mall ninja threads. It is especially joyous to watch a new person discover this wonderful concept. Kinda hard to pull it off at work, though. It's their coffee and their keyboard. One of the many things I appreciate about THR as compared to other gun...
