The title says it all. I think it would be neat to get a single shot rifle chambered in 444 marlin, that way i could shoot 444 marlin, 44 special, or 44 magnum out of it, if its possible.
I know it sounds crazy, but here's what I was wondering:
I was thinking of buying a Handi rifle chambered in 500 s&w, and using surplus 50bmg bullets. Since it's a rifle, the OAL of the cartridge could be much longer than that of a revolver. Plus, there are a lot of surplus 50 bmg bullets...
I've used the Albanian 7.62x54R surplus and had problems with a couple of cartridges. 2 developed cracks in the brass near the base of the cartridge near the rim when they were fired. Before firing, neither looked bad. So, 2 problem cartridges out of ~500 isnt too bad I suppose.
Yeah, I reload single stage. I don't typically crimp the brass on my jacketed 9mm loads, I take it crimping is absolutely mandatory with cast?
I don't really care if it takes longer, I don't usually count my time in the process, otherwise I'd be loosing a lot of money in the first place...
I've been reloading for my xd-9 for about a month now, and am satisfied with the savings (albeit small) over buying commercial ammo. However, I've been using Remington 115 grain Hollowpoints that cost about 5 cents each, which probably arent the most cost effective solution for shooting paper...
Lately I've been thinking about getting a rifle chambered in 300 win mag to shoot mostly at metal sillohutes (sp?) between 200 and 500 yards (mostly 500).
However, I'd also like to shoot at paper targets at the standard 100 yard range.
Would downloading the powder charge on a 300 winmag...
I've gone to every Wannemacher Arms show for the past 2 years (I live in Tulsa). And every year I only get to see about half of whats out there.
I only bought some .224 bullets for reloading and a can of Albanian 7.62x54R ammo though.
