How do you NOT shoot yourself w/ CCW?

Lots of good advice here. A glock in a quality holster is very safe. Make sure that when holstering (or handling in any way), that's the only thing you are doing, and be mindful--every single time. Follow the four rules--all the time. You'll build good habits along the way, but that can never be...

Ego and Conflict: Some observations from a day in crisis intervention training.

The ability to set one's ego aside and communicate is valuable during ANY conflict, in my opinion. The context of "mental health" is appropriate, since all conflict brings out the neurosis in each of us, at the very least. As for the age thing, I suspect that the job has a way of smoothing...

    Is Blazer ammo anygood

My G19 likes the aluminum blazer from Academy. It has less smoke than WWB, and the groups seem a bit tighter, too. I've probably shot 4K rounds of it with no problems.

    M&P Compact Impressions

My wife has a M&P9c. The trigger was gritty at first but smoothed out after a few hundred rounds. Most of the issue was that the tab on the trigger bar that pushed the firing in safety had a rough edge. I think if S&W would clean this up before shipping them out, that it would increase their...

Is this too cheap of a hollow point?

You might find what you're looking for here: http://ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/index.php?cName=45-acp-hollow-point-ammo Check out HST as well.

    My new .22 pistol!

I have the previous model camper, and like it a lot. It is very accurate, and feeds everything I've tried in it so far (mostly bulk stuff). The only thing I don't care for is the plastic top piece. I replaced mine with a TacSol rail, which is much better. Also, I have to use thread lock to keep...

Wrist hurting after drawing/rapid fire drills.

Another useful exercise for the hands and wrist can be done with just a hammer. Hold the hammer in your hand with the head up. Then move the hammer forward and back several times. Then do the same thing, only side to side. The heavier the hammer, and the longer the handle, the more strenuous it...

Who here shoots handguns with both eyes open?

I started out shooting with one eye open, but made some effort to try with both eyes opened. I still have the habit of wanting to close my non-dominant eye, but the groups are better with both eyes open. I find that it is becoming more natural to shoot with both eyes open now.

    Glock accessories

I'd suggest a really good holster for a glock. You might not think of this as being an accessory, but a secure holster will facilitate safe carry. Other than that, I did put night sights on my (carry) g19, but the rest is stock. The rest of your money can be saved for ammo.

When the "Ice hits the fan", lessons learned

Don't forget that the hot water tank is full of water. There should be a tap on the side so you can access it. If you're not sure about the water supply, then you can sanitize it before drinking. If you think that you're likely to lose water, you can fill the bathtubs to hold some for things...

Gun shot wounds and first aid

I took the Heartsaver First Aid (First Aid + CPR + AED)from the American Heart Assn. and it didn't cover much in the way of gunshot wounds. Basic stuff like clearing the area, applying pressure, and how to deal with shock. But mostly, it was "call 911". This thread reminds me that it's time to...

Safes (portable, quick access): what best fits my needs?

I have a manual (simplex) pushbutton one (handgunsafe.com, which no longer sells them) for the same purpose. I do like the idea of not having to worry about batteries, but the drawback is that it lacks a tamper-resistant feature. A simplex lock can be bypassed fairly quickly by trial-and-error...
