New to Hunting, looking to buy my 1st rifle

Also, I've used lots of entry level rifles, both wood stocked and synthetic stocked. Most came with 3-9x40 scopes already mounted, some were Bushnell, others were Nikon. Both are acceptable for the money. Maybe it's just me personally and/or my eyesight, but the Nikons seem to be much clearer...

New to Hunting, looking to buy my 1st rifle

D.A.1, $379 for a .308 Savage Axis with Bushnell 3-9x40 scope is a fair price for an entry level rifle. However, the Savage 11/111 is a better quality rifle for not a whole lot more. Just my opinion, but I'd stick with the rifle versus the slug gun. The reason is that you will have much...

    new to reloading

Balliet, does your Savage Axis have the Accutrigger? I believe most of them do and, if yours has it, you can adjust that trigger quite a bit. It's not the best trigger available, but it is still a very good trigger for an entry level rifle.

    Very good day of reloading.

I can see them now as well, and they are great photos! Treasure your time together and create many more memories for later down the road.

Yeah, THe Dove, the photos aren't loading for me either.

How do Nosler Accubonds perform at their rated minimum velocity?

Macchina, I'm doing the exact same thing except I am working up loads using the 165 grain Nosler Accubond for my .30-06 Remington 700. I'm using IMR 4350, Winchester brass, and Winchester large rifle primers. I have a bunch loaded at different charge weights, but the weather has been crap for...

Date of Manufacture by Serial Number Lookup?

Anyone have info on Remingtons and Winchesters made since WWII?

    Very good day of reloading.

In the future, the memories you are making now with children and grandchildren will be worth more than all guns and reloading equipment combined! :-)

What is the first gun you ever puchase or received

My first gun was a Winchester 37A 12 gauge singleshot. It was given to me by my dad as a Christmas present in 1969, when I was 10 years old. I no longer have it, but I do have my grandfather's red letter model 37 and wouldn't give it up for all of the money in the world. The first gun I...

    Bolt Target Rifle

While I know there are really accurate rifles and some great shooters out there, I'm a bit confused. If any particular rifle gets 1/2" groups at 100 yards, how can it possibly get 1/2" groups at 500 yards as well? From my understanding of minute of angle (MOA), this should be impossible.

My XDm-45 Compact just turned 1,000

Nice looking gun. I have a Glock 21 but have been thinking about picking up one of the Springfields.

    Homemade Rifle Rest

Pretty good thinking! I like this a lot.

    Rifle/Scope Packages

Considering your budget limit, I'd look at the Savage 10/110 or 11/111. Regardless of which rifle you decide to go with, make sure that you loosen the scope mount screws and adjust for eye relief BEFORE you torque those screws back down. Maybe I got lucky but I have a Nikon Prostaff 4-16x40...

    Butler Creek stock

It was for a Remington 700 ADL in .30-06. It looked pretty good and I've been considered a different stock so that I could free float the 22" sporter barrel in my rifle. It has the factory synthetic stock that has quite a bit of lex to it.
