Pics of my "retro" AR-15: Dissipator A1

Colt made an early version of the carbine with a 15" barrel threaded just at the end of the front sight base. It had a full-length rifle gas system. It was called the 605. The upper receivers were actually 603 receivers with the forward assist ground off in the milling process. The...

Is the A1-style AR-15 upper making a comeback?

Ok, a couple of things about the A1 upper receivers. These were previously only available as surplus or through places like Bushmaster, Fulton Armory, Delton or DPMS. Sadly the Delton, DPMS, and Fulton Armory receivers all have the slots cut for proprietary charging handles and mil-spec...

Whatever happened to Occluded Eye Gunsights?

Talk about back from the dead! A comparison shot of the early Singlepoint compared to the later Armson: I finally found an original strap mount for my Singlepoint: And finally built a GAU Son Tay Raider clone with a slickside upper: And some quick shots of the Task Force...

    Help Identify this gun

Because if it is unregistered or unlicensed, possession or ownership is a felony and in violation of the National Firearms Act and could result in a $10,000 fine, 10-30 years in a Federal Prison, or both. Seeing that this was "given" to the current owner, I would be suspicious of the status...

    Help Identify this gun

Provided that is in the United States, it needs to be either a de-activated war trophy, a 1968 amnesty weapon, or registered in the NFA Registry as a short-barrelled rifle or transferrable machine gun. If it is none of the above, I would lose all association and memory of it as quickly as...

    Help Identify this gun

It is a VietCong K-50M. The Chinese gave the VietCong their copy of the PPSh-41 in 1950, called the Type 50. The VC changed the folding buttstock for a telescoping wire stock, shortened the barrel jacket and removed the compensator, and added a pistol grip. Manufactured from 1958-1965...

Four years later, the XM607 is finished

Shoots great! I run it with an "H"-weight buffer, M16 carrier for increased mass, McFarland gas rings, Wolff extra-strength extractor spring, and a Crane "O"-ring. That and the gas port opened to 0.093" gives me reliability with no issues on all of my ~10" carbines.

Four years later, the XM607 is finished

The reproduction buttstock, handguards, delta charging handle, and XM607 non-NFA moderator all came from Total Silence, Inc. in Auburn, WA. The barrel was originally a Colt lightweight 16" post-ban barrel so I did not have to worry about chopping the bayonet lug off. I had it chopped and...

Four years later, the XM607 is finished

Here are the pics. Mostly completed to original specs, some minor things I may change later (change out front sight base for an early pre-1964 cast front sight base). But here it is... Originally on an A2 receiver. Then I moved them to Colt SP1 receivers...

Whatever happened to Occluded Eye Gunsights?

Ironballs, you may end up disappointed. The half-life of tritium is just over twelve years, meaning in twelve+ years your dot is half as bright as when started. In the daytime, the brightness of the dot will vary with ambient light conditions. The brighter the light, the more transferred by...
