For me, it would have to be one of these two. Which one, would depend upon my AO. For my current location (central Indiana), it would be this. A Rossi in .45 Colt. In the mountains, I'd go with this. A sproterized (by a previous owner) '03 Springfield in 30-06.

Ruger offers a .22 hornet version of their 77/22, here is the link. Perhaps this rifle could be adapted.
