I am quite confident of the 6-7/8" measurement, and 7" was the closest I could find, via Boyds gunstocks web page. Now whether the previous owner of this gunstock somehow mislocated the aluminum screw guide is beyond me. In any event I have posted it to Ebay and it is currently for sale under...
Not sure if this pic will pull off of the web like I wanted it to, but I found this page about bedding actions and the Sako Finnbear looks just like mine, only this would have to be a short action...
Here are some pics. The action does have a flat bottom. It cannot be a Rem 700 because of the recoil lug. Note the wide radius on the tang. I was looking at Sakos last night, visually seemed close but the closest dimension I could find on the c to c was 7.000".
I just bought a gun stock off of ebay which boasted a vague description but suggested it may fit a 93-95 mauser. Upon receipt I am disappointed to find it does not fit my mauser and I cant find any information on the net to figure out what type of gun it is for.
This stock is still showing...
Thank you Hamm. I looked back through the whole post and kind of laughed at the fact it started out puke green, and ended up a similar shade. I do prefer the latter still;). I have quite an itch to find another project, but I suspect the finance committee(wife) wont be extending the budget any...
More furniture shots, and the sum of my efforts. This is a 10 round group from the bench at 50 yards. It was a really nice 5 round group, but i reloaded and kept poking holes. The orange dot is about 3/4" diameter.
Gunny, I am using Minwax's Antique oil finish. I know what you mean, it does dry hard. Not sure exactly what it is comprised of, but for what I am doing, it is exactly what i wanted. I put a final coat on tonight. Looks sweet, the grain is filled. It may be a combination of oil and a...
:banghead::cuss::fire: Well I buffed the stock down, and was well aware that the color was getting thin on some edges. Long story short I sanded the whole stock back down with 320 and re-stained it with a different stain. The grain should all be full, hopefully a few coats of oil and i will...
Hurray! I just brought home the finished metal. I really like the color (parker). Everything turned out very well-I attribute that to the great(free) bead blast job. How am I supposed to wait a week to reassemble this? Not sure I will;)
Final steps remaining are to finish buffing the...
Here are some pictures of the stock- with a dry coat of oil on it. It is very shiny right now, but i will steel wool it down to give it a nice luster.:D
