    savage 12 F TR

Both of mine shoot 168 Berger VLDs better than any 155s or Sierra 168s. But - Mine are earlier ones and they are 1 in 10" twist (I measured it). Check the twist yourself!

Anyone shoot the 220 Swift anymore?

Yes. I have 3 220 Swifts. A Remington 700 Varmint, a Savage 12BVSS and a Stevens 200 with a Douglas barrel. The Stevens with the Douglas barrel is the most accurate. The last time out it shot 4ea 5 round groups at 200 Yards of .324, .399, .338 and .659 MOA. I guess I blew the last...

    savage question

Yes either check out the problem or if you don't feel comfortable doing the troubleshooting take the rifle back. Not a good idea to fire any rifle loose in the stock - let alone a 300 Mag !:banghead:

    Powder question?

I have fired handloaded ammo that was 20+ years old and it all worked just fine. I had 38 SPL, 44 MAG and 45 ACP both lead and jacketed. Did not have a single problem. Mine was all stored under good conditions.

    Thumbhole Stocks? Pros and Cons?

I don't really like them and I think they are probably a negative influence on accurate shooting but - my most accurate factory rifle (XR-100 in .223) has a thumbhole stock and I'm not messing with success. :D

    Alliant 2400 powder

Unique, Bullseye, W231 and H110 meter well for pistols and the Winchester W powders for rifles.

    FN FiveseveN Warning *Picture Heavy*

Another good example why I will just stick with the 45 ACP in a 1911. I'm sure one has blown up somewhere sometime but probably only from a double charge of Bullseye!

    Unique vs. Win 231

In the 45 ACP, Unique for 185 GR JHP and 231 or Bullseye for 200 SWC Lead. Unique is dirty but who cares and it smells really good when it burns. :D If you want a clean hobby - collect stamps.

    Danger Signs when reloading?

The #1 danger sign is when you have been reloading so long without any problems you quit being concerned that something could go wrong. Complacency is a sure precursor to disaster.

Can you pack powder too tight?

It is also possible to bulge the case by compressing the powder too much. The drop tube is a good solution. You might also try a dentist dental vibrator table. Check ebay or a dental equipment supply house.

Switching to non-molly Lapua Scenar, what effect to expect?

Clean the barrel well before switching to non-moly bullets. You should drop down in powder weight and work up a new load. You will likely need less powder for the same velocity. You will likely need to clean more often.

    Hornady Comparator Insert Question

You have two of the same. You need the 2-22 (aka LNL 222) for the .223

GunVault - seems to be improving C.S.

If yours is an older one and does not have the code set button, can you tell me how to change the code from the factory default? I lost my manual and don't remember how to change the code. I've tried to contact them a few times with NO luck. Glad to hear they took care of your problem.

    Dillon owners?

38" I can sit on a bar/counter type stool or stand. Mostly I will sit on the bar stool and reload but at times I alternate to avoid fatigue from one position.

Gun cleaning fluids and cold weather

You don't say what pistols but I routinely shoot 1911 type pistols in the sort of weather you describe. I have never encountered any problems in cold weather. Typically I use oil on the pistols instead of grease. Lately I have been using "Snake Oil" from Dillon and have not noticed any...
