Two year storage in gun safe

I am leaving to live abroad for two years, and need ideas on how to best store my firearms. I have a mix of synthetic and wood firearms and all have blued finishes. I already have dessicant packs in the safe, and a family member has agreed to refresh them every month. What oils should I coat the...

Expansion of Silver Bear .308 for hunting

Guys, I have shot approximately 13 deer this season, and only been able to find one of them. I have been using 140grain Silver Bear .308 ammo as seen here. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM690-5.html Silver Bear is supposed to be "soft point" (a la Core-Lokt or Powerpoint or etc.), but it...

Boresighter arbors = death to crown?

Back to my original question: do spud type boresighters harm the crown?

Boresighter arbors = death to crown?

Does using a boresighter with arbors basically require you to damage your crown and rifling? I don't see how you could use one without doing so. Even if you're super careful, a single slip seems disasterous (especially since all of the arbors I've seen are steel!). :what:

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

The rifle is a Remington SPS Tactical. And for the record, no, this is not a joke. I could also care less if you "doubt my story," friend. If I decide to stick with a 20moa base when this is all said and done, will it create any issues for me shooting at short distances? I know that as a...

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

Will shooting with a 20moa base put the scope so far up off of the bore line that it causes problems when shooting at close distances? Should I get a 0moa base?

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

BTW I tried to boresight after changing the order of the rings.

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

Update: I tried to boresight the rifle tonight, and found out: After aiming the bore at an object approximately 20 feet away (inside the house), the scope picture is approximately 4-5 inches high! All of the walkthroughs I read online say "physically adjust the scope in the rings so the...

    Removing paste wax

What would be wrong with rubbing alcohol?

    Removing paste wax

I know many of you reccomend Johnson's Paste Wax as a release agent for glass bedding. How do you get it off when you're finished? Is there some chemical/liquid that will remove it more easily than simply scrubbing the action with hot soapy water?

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

Please note: I seem to be pretty much dead-on as far as left-right adjustment; I am simply shooting five feet lower than where I'm aiming even after completely using up my "up" adjustment.

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

I am completely out of "up" adjustment (as in "I keep needing to go up but can't click up any more"). I adjusted it completely down just for kicks -- I was then shooting 30 FEET below the target instead of 5 feet below it.

    Rifle shooting five feet low!

Guys, I tried to sight in a new .308 rifle tonight. I had an IOR 20moa base, Badger rings, and a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-12x40AO. I completely ran out of elevation adjustment, and my rifle still shot approximately five feet low at 100 yards. Is the base hurting me? I have it installed like the...

    Roommate Robbed at School!

What options for self-protection does she have now? She's actually afraid of sexual assault now that the "dogs smell blood," but obviously can't carry a firearm on school property. What should she suggest? A panic button? A uniformed guard? Security cameras?

    Roommate Robbed at School!

Correction to my previous post: both of their cell phones were outside in her car. The moral dilemma: 1) Decide not to help these guys (and potentially have them die at the hands of an attacker you would have prevented had you decided to help them). 2) Decide to help these guys (and...
