I had the same issue/question. My .223 cases were short (new) both before AND after sizing. I didn't see any significant lengthening post sizing, either.
I just went by cartridge overall length and all was good.:D

Deprime
Tumble followed by a quick inspection to catch the obvious
Clean primer pocket
Resize/trim followed by cleaning off case lube if not using carbide dies
Tumble with newer walnut shell media followed by a 100% inspection under magnifier.

I've got the manual version of hte trim pro and also had some tight pilots until I applied a little case lube to the tight pilots. All better now...
Oh, and I also lubed as described above. It helps everything slide smoothly as it's supposed to.

The revolver models top to bottom are the Model of 1950, the Model of 1955 and the Model of 1989.
I currently have a blued S&W model 25-2, (Model of 1950) , a blued S&W Model 25-2, (Model of 1955) and a S&W Model 625-3, (Model of 1989) in stainless.
By the way, all are in like new condition.

After firing, I deprimed the brass and then tumbled it to clean it up for resizing.
Just because I'm so anal, I decided to measure the cases prior to any resizing whatever. I wanted to see where they were both before and after I resized...
