    Ruger GP100 experiences?

My wife and I have a 3&4" fixed sight GP100. When we are doing fence work or other farm stuff this is what we wear. Never had a moment trouble. My oldest step-son bought a 4"full shrouded adj sight GP100. After about a dozen shots the barrel went down range. Ruger made it good with about...

    Browning Lever

I have a BLR 81 in 308. It's my favorite go to hunting rifle. I have a friend that has the BLR lighting, (curved grip) in 300 mag. The recoil was enough to make him start to flinch. A local smith put a muzzle break that reduced the recoil greatly.

    .357 for wild hogs

I once had a run in with a wild hog. I was with my brother in law and were checking his feeders, and plots. Prior, he told me a 22 would be sufficient. (yea right!) It had been a year since I was out and about because of illness. Still after some thought I decided on my Ruger GP 100 4" with...

Best 9mm defense ammo at their local stores?

I prefer the lighter faster 9MM's. The 115 grn to 127 grrn +P or +P+ Presently my carry Glock 26 has Cor-Bon 115+P's. If I ever become able to afford them I will go to their DPX round

    Ruger GP 100

My wife and I have GP 100's. My wife has a 3", and mine is a 4". They look like the one in EVCMatt's pictures. These are our "ranch" guns. When we are fixing fence and such those are what we carry. I use to be a S&W revolver man. Heck I've carried a S&W J,K,L,N frame as duty guns from...

    Rifle progression for my wife

I hear people swear by the limb saver slip-on recoil pad. You might give it a try.

    Revolver for a duty weapon

First averages and number don't mean a thing. You don't get do overs in life. I carried revolvers during most of my LE career. I would not feel at a disadvantage to start doing it again. That said I doubt I would CHOOSE to go back to a revolver. First, I always carried 4 reloads on my...

    Handgun for a household

Like a lot of guys here I always thought that a 6 shot 3 or 4 inch Stainless 38/357 was the ideal hand gun for the "non-gun" person for home defense. It still is a good choice. However not to long ago a incident altered that opinion. My neighbor became a widow. She approached me to help...

    wife or gf

Glock 19 with a Kel-Tec 32 backup ETA: Let your wife/girlfriend pick their own gun. During the last 30 years I can't count the number of guns I bought home "just knowing she would love it", only to have her either hold or shoot it, then give it back to me, saying she docent like it.

    Backpacking gun, .308 or heavier?

I know the Browning BLR, and I believe the Marlin come in a "break down" model. The Browning caliber was 308, (I'm not sure what other calibers if any). If memory serves me, when the Marlin guide came out there was a break down version. I'm not sure if it was in 45-70 or 450 marlin. If I...

Decision Time on Scope for Woods Rifle

I have 2 "woods" rifles. My BLR in 308 and a SKS carbine. My BLR sports a Burris 1.5 to 5(I think, might be a 6) and my SKS has a Simmons 1.5 to 5. I like them both, and both serve their purpose. You concept is correct. So pick the scope that YOUR eye finds the best, and YOU see through...

Who uses 147gr JHP 9mm as a self defense round?

When my Dept went to 9MM they went to the 147 grn bullet, because the FBI said it was the way to go. I'm sorry it's actual street record was dismal. In (mm I prefer the lighter but faster 115 or 124 +P or +P+. The 127+P+ is a great round also. I hear the newer 147's are better, but...

Looking for a "Combat Revolver" in .357

I've carried a revolver for duty and off duty for close to 18 years. I've carried S&W J,K,L,&N frame guns. Presently My wife and I own Ruger GP 100's, a 3" and 4" respectfully. First if this is going to be a carry gun I HIGHLY recommend you look at a stainless gun. For the year I had to...
