If I could only own one gun, then I would want to get the one with the best reliability and easiest aftermarket support. I am new to firearms, so I don't know which one that would be here! Though I would hazard a guess to XD-M / XD-9 over Sig.
Isn't it prime time right now for Cal NRA or somebody to wave money (or legistation that would provide money, you know what I mean) at California in exchange for easier (read: application approved unless reason to deny) to get CCW permits?
TX has like $9 billion extra dollars surplus ... can you guys come take over CA and fix our economy and crap laws? We don't have many guns so it should be easy ... :D kthx!

(1) I can borrow a firearm from a good acquaintance for lawful purposes for up to 30 days, and additionally I need an HSC to borrow a pistol.
(2) I can lend my firearm to someone...
Same deal here, I'm in my 30s and live in CA, and would like to borrow one of my father's pistols for range practice (to become familiar with that particular model). I already own a couple pistols of my own.
Clearly, there is nothing "wrong" ethically/morally here, and I'm sure I could borrow...
I use Reed's range about once a week and have purchases a couple firearms from them. Nice place. They watched me like a hawk on my first day at the range with my expert friend giving the lessons. RO even came over to help improve my stance, etc.
Also there is Bay Area Gun Vault on El Camino...
