Advice on first Long Range Scope for Hunting

Personally...I would consider one of the Leupolds with CDS for this task. VX 3 or 3i VX R 4-12 VX 6 2-12 I've owned the Vortex HST 4-16 and the features are great, but wasn't that impressed with the optics once the light started to fade. Like the Bushnell LRHS much better. Similar size and...

Selling a KelTec SU-16 rifle out of state to California

Further research indicates that certain models, those which fold and don't allow the rifle to fire, are most likely legal in CA at this time with no modifications. Assuming they meet the other restrictions in regards to length, etc. Not sure which particular model you have, but if it can...

Selling a KelTec SU-16 rifle out of state to California

Based on the Calguns AW Flowchart an unmodified SU-16 is considered an Assault Weapon (Detach mags + folding stock). You would have to fix the folding stock in the extended position to make it legal. http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf Here is an older thread which covers this...

When your brass talks...be a good listener

gspn, I don't know who you emailed exactly, but I would recommend using this form on their website. Upload the pictures and include your lot number. I had the same problem a few years ago and they took care of me. They paid for the bad primers to UPS back to them, got a box of 5k in exchange...

    308 velocity dilemma

CaneCorso85, I would recommend reading Zediker's article on loading for M14s located here. While a bit conservative, he highlights the unique aspects of reloading for an M14 type rifle. You can't get as creative with this beast as you can with a bolt gun. Seems like the "standard" loads...

    Hornady steel match ammo.

Steel Match (.223 w/ 75gr BTHP) I shot three 50rd boxes of the above ammo through my Bushmaster NM upper earlier this year in a few different highpower matches (100-200 yds reduced). These cases were laquer coated and performed flawlessly. Accuracy was on par with the brass cased Hornady...

    Smith and Wesson M&P 15 (.22lr) - Worth it?

I have a 15-22 MOE, my Dad has the Ruger SR-22 version, and a friend has the Colt 20" version. Honestly, they are all decent and seem to shoot well, but each has its advantages. 15-22: Exactly mimics the controls of a real AR. In face, I recently replaced the so-so factory trigger with a...

    Muse

Here are a few ideas: 1) Pistol cal carbine (.357 Mag, etc), but not sure about bolt rifles. Mostly levers in this area. 2) Something in .22-250. More umphh than a .223, but still able to use the same bullets if you reload. 3) A 6 or 6.5mm short cartidge like the 6.5 Grendel.

    Appleseed, LTR, and scopes

I used a Vortex Sparc red dot mounted on a cheap Weaver rail on a 10/22. This was in place of the normally mounted Nikon 4x32 ProStaff. My wife shot the rifle the first day, while I shot the S&W 15-22 with iron sights. Second day I shot the 10/22 with Sparc and it worked great. I just turned...

    Using the Hornady headspace tool...

Thanks for the input everyone! I was under the false impression I could measure the actual chamber headspace from the once-fired brass (in a bolt action anyways) using this tool. I have read in several places it is good to reduce brass stretch by sizing just under the actual chamber, like...

    Using the Hornady headspace tool...

Jimmy K, Yes, that is what I intend to do. It seems to chamber factory ammo just fine. I was just a bit confused by the difference between my measurements and the SAAMI specs. Beau

    Using the Hornady headspace tool...

I bought the Hornady headspace measuring tool with the intent of sizing my rifle cartridges to the specific chambers. My first try has led to some questions...mainly concerning the measurements I took compared to the SAAMI specs. The rifle is a new Marlin XL-7 in .30-06 and the brass is once...

    New Product: Hornady Steel Match

I picked up some of the .223 steel match with 75gr BTHP last week at the local shop. Price was $20.85/50 I think, which is $7 less than the MSRP on Hornady's site. I imagine the street price of the other cartridges will be less too. This shop isn't exactly known for cheap factory ammo... I...
