How do they work in larger calibers? Good for snakes? I tried the .22 ones some years ago and thought they were just hot enough to piss off a sparrow. What's the spread and effective range?

It's a 580 series. Barrel is about 3/4" at the block, and tapers to about 5/8" right up to the sight. It then steps down again to 1/2" for the last inch where the sight mounts. I'm guessing that's to use the older front sight on the new barrel???

That three shot group on the right looks like exactly like how my newer walnut/stainless (2011) ranch shoots. First two overlap, third just high and to the right. Very interesting thread.

God forbid that situation occurs, but if it did, I'd rather have a cheap shotgun sitting in an evidence locker somewhere likely to not be seen again for a long time, instead of an expensive AR.

They were both hit high. Doesn't really say much though. We don't even know how many shots were fired. I'll check back on the story in a week or so and find out what really went down.
