This is the full stock version. Does anyone have one? I'd like to hear from an actual user concerning the good and bad points of this rifle. Experience with this rifle in a .260 would be awesome since that is what I'm leaning toward.

I've got an earlier AIII version of the carbine in 30-06, a more perfect hunting rifle would be hard to find, depending on your hunting methods of course. I think it would get a little heavy for back pack hunting in the high country for example. They are generally very accurate and very elegant looking to my eye.

Thanks Browningguy. Good looking rifle there. Yep, I think it will be well suited for my kind of hunting. I stalk a bit, shoot from tree stands and sometimes shooting houses. Yes folks, I know shooting houses are not hunting in the true sense of the word.

Never met a SAKO I didn't like.

And that one right there you ask about is simply Buitiful!!

Looking foreward to a full report when you get it!!

That's one sweet full stocked Sako you've got there! Very elegant looking indeed!

I also have never met a Sako I did not like and that Bavarian Carbine is one beautiful firearm. I have 2 85's and a 75 all shoot great and put together really well. The 20" barrel handicaps the 260 though.

Good luck and shoot straight

Bob

Yeah, I'm wondering how much of a handicap that barrel length will be to the .260. Is the barrel 20 or 22?. I'll have to look. Oh well, I'm one step closer to ordering, sold the Mod 70 Super Grade today. One more to go.

The 20" barrel handicaps the 260 though.
Its a full stock carbine, not a 26" Target rifle!!

The 20" barrel of a 94 Winchester carbine handicaps the 30-30 round too.

But they never made a faster handling or deadlier woods deer killer!

That .260 SAKO would give it a good run though I bet.
Maybe even beat it.

FWIW, I have a Sako 85 Bavarian (full length) rifle in .300 WSM. The rifle is terrific...<1 MOA with factory loads, comfortable to shoot, great trigger, super-smooth action and fit and finish second to none. The furniture is simply wonderful and the egos are a pleasure, both off the bench to sight in (I put a Leupy VX3 4.5-14 on it) and off shooting sticks. I will almost certainly pick up a Bavarian Carbine in 6.5x55 SE (I have a Ruger No. 1 in that caliber)...it will be a wonderful addition to my collection.

Flatbush, thats good to know. We're only talking 2 more inches of barrel on the rifle vs. the carbine. RC, Since I'm a handloader, I do believe I can live with the .260 in the Carbine model. I'm guessing that they wouldn't make it if it didn't work. I shoot out to 300 yds max and thats a very rare happening. 80 to 100 yds is more like the average where I hunt. Bet the deer won't notice the difference.

I have a Remington M-7 in .260 with 20" barrel and in no way is it handicapped. The .260 is a highly efficient cartridge that does not need a long barrel to maximize performance.

Ordered the Bavarian Carbine in .260 this afternoon. Now the hard part...the wait
BTW, check our classifieds, I have some 25-06 stuff to trade for 260 stuff if anyone needs it. Will also list some brass and bullets there soon.

Just got here and here it is umboxed. Sorry for the poor picture composition, but its all I can do at the moment. The finish is awesome. Metal looks like it grew out of the wood. Balance is perfect. Sights come up perfectly when you shoulder it. Stock fits me very well. Wouldn't change a thing. Action is smooth as glass and the set trigger makes one grin! Great safety feature with the little lever forward of the safety button that allows loading and unloading in the "safe" position. I've ordered a set ot Talley bases and Talley quick release rings. The scope is a Swarovski 2.5-10X42. I'll let ya'll know how it shoots when the rings and bases get here and I get it to the range. OH....260 Remington.

Beautiful rifle. My Sako 85s are favored over anything else in the safe. Even my rifles that cost a lot more don't compare.

Definitely a beautiful marriage of wood and metal into a very stylish rifle! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys. Got the Talleys and the Swarovski on. Range tomarrow. Hope it shoots good. Right now the only ammo I have is Nosler. Its their 130 partition load.

Believe I'll keep this one!

Went to the range as I said I would. The 25 yard range was full so I went to the 100 yd range right off. Looked thru the bore and got the scope and the bore pointing in the same general direction. Shot about 4 rounds and adjusted until I hit the bottom black dot. Another adjustment and I hit the red dot which was the point of aim. Adjusted a bit more and hit the top black dot which was where I wanted the POI to be. Another shot went in the same hole and a last shot that almost hit the same place but was a tad off. Not too shabby considering the cross hairs cover up a lot ( most) of that half inch dot. A dime easily covered the group.

I think that is a great pairing of rifle, and cartridge, especially if you reload!

I do reload. I'm going to try the Nosler 125 gr Partitions or the 120 Ballistic Tips. Gotta figure out which powder it likes with what bullet.
