Im looking for an economical source for 7.62x39 jacketed bullets. I have seen the extreme bullets but I am leery as some have said they gave great results and others have said they had feeding problems and bullet set back issues. Im interested to know if there's anyplace out there has pulled surplus for example. Thank for any imput.

Not exactly cheap... Ive been using the sierra .311 150 grain #2300. I think I got them from midway for $23 per 100?
Quality stuff. But i dont shoot that caliber in a lot of volume...the ones I do shoot, I dont want to worry about having issues.

with the Xtreme plated the trick is finding the correct COL, I have good results with their 123 plated using H-4198 in a Russian SKS.

I think setback is a problem related to neck tension, crimp, or feeding "obstructions". High dollar bullets can/will set back just as easily as El Cheapo junk bullets (as long as the diameter is consistent)...

But, I haven't been able to locate any low cost bullets for the 7.62x39...

I've used the Xtreme 7.62x39 bullets in my rifles without problems but I'm using them in 3 bolt actions. The rmr .310 dia bullets look very much like the Xtreme bullets.

Very much doubt you'll find milsurp 7.62 x 39 bullets.
A great deal depends on what you consider 'economical' as well. Little bit of what you want to do with 'em too. You need a hunting bullet or a target bullet?
Likely the least expensive will be Prvi. Grafs lists 123 grain FMJ's as currently out of stock, but were $179.91 per 1,000.
"...feeding problems and bullet set back issues..." Usually a reloading error. OAL and neck tension, like mdi says.

vongh,
What type of rifle are you using them in? A semi-auto or a bolt action. If you are feeding a semi-auto, then best bet is the buy in bulk. Hornady V Max shoot good for targets and Berry makes decent plated bullets rated at 1900 fps. Grafs has the Berry plated 123gr @ .14 ea when buying a box of 250 and the Hornady 123 gr. V Max @ .22 ea in boxes of 100. Wideners has the Hornady Z Max which is a green tipped V Max for $110.50 per 500 which is a bit cheaper. Haven't used the Extreme plated as contradictory info about how fast you can push them.

Reloading for a SKS or AK series semi in 7.62x39 is a marginal proposition considering how cheap steel cased blasting ammo can be. Right now Wolf is selling @.22 per round loaded steel case per 1000 at ammo to go and shopping might get it below that.

I reload this caliber from time to time simply as an emergency expedient if imported ammo gets problematic and to test accuracy loads in a SKS.

If I hunted with such, I would use a 150gr gas checked lead bullet for decent expansion but then I have a .30-30 which would do it better and cheaper.

I think setback is a problem related to neck tension, crimp,
Could try a expander for .308, my RCBS dies came both.
I seat the Xtreme plated 123gr .312"dia. FP at 2.062" for SKS

Im planning on reloading for an sks. The ammo will be for blasting ammo. I have lots of tula ammo. But I also have a lot of boxer primed brass that needs to be filled and developing good recipe takes a little experimentation. Its not a pressing need for me but its definately something id like to get more experience with.
